I know this would be better suited to the Gentoo forums, but I'm giving the brains here first crack at the problem.
Over the weekend I installed 2004.2 with no problems--until I rebooted. At that point, I got much of the way through the boot process, past the grub screen, up to:
Kernel panic: No init found. Try passing init= option to kernel.
From what I've read, init isn't needed on non-genkernel kernels, as mine is. No other errors seem to be present above that line--and it does indicate that the root filesystem was loaded.
The only difference between this and other systems I've installed is that /usr, /bin, and /sbin are all on separate partitions. I'm thinking this is causing a problem. However, I rearranged my fstab so that those were above / in the list.
Does anyone have any insight into this problem?
