hi, ive got a ti4200 right now in my system, my friend needs a new vid card bc his isn't playing Far Cry. Its really choppy, ive tried many things to fix it but i concluded that he just needed a new card. I told him that i would sell him mine because I know that it works with my vid card. Ive been wanting to get a new one for a while now so i thought this would be a good time to buy a new video card. Ive kinda been out of the video card loop, ive been checking out the FX5900xt and the 5700 ultra. I plan on playing HL2 and Doom3. Should i go for the 128bit or the 256bit? I have narrowed it down to these two cards FX5900XT and 5700 Ultra .
I would like any input. Thanks

If I had to choose between those two cards, I would go for the 5900XT. Keep in mind this is just the better of the two.

5900xt!! i used to have a 5900ultra, well i still do but it's dead. there is a big difference between 128-bit and 256-bit. graphics look better on the 5900xt and the performance is much greater. you can flash or overclock it and run it at about 5900ultra performance levels. i don't know how well it will play on doom3 and hl2, if you want optimal performance you should look at the 6800gt.

Far Cry is OK on a 5900XT (which I own), but not great. Don't expect to be able to go above 800x600 with max quality or 1280x1024 with medium quality. Don't even think about AA/AF at any sort of reasonable resolution. Also, there are rendering problems.

In the $150-$200 price range, the Radeon 9800 Pro (make sure you get the one that's 8 pipeline and has a 256-bit interface, not the SE or 128-bit version) is much better. I tried to buy one but had problems with my DVI monitor (Radeons aren't compatible with my monitor with DVI - I've tried several).

If you have $300 to blow, the 6800 Non-Ultra is hard to beat. It's faster than the Radeon 9800XT and 5950U, has a single slot/single molex design, and is a great card.

If you have $300-$400 to blow, the 6800GT is hard to beat. It can be found for as little as $325 if you use Froogle, but it's out of stock unless you're willing to pay at least $400. It's single slot and only needs 1 molex connector. I'm probably going to buy one for my Shuttle system.

The Radeon X800 is good, but at $400 (more like $415 street) the 6800GT is a bit faster, and the 6800GT O/Cs to 6800U speeds pretty well.

The 6800U is OK, but it has a 2-slot cooler and it requires two molex connecters. Also, the X800XT is faster in most games. It's also $500 or more.

The X800XT is what it is. It's a $500 (more on the street) card that is awesome. Faster than the 6800U in most games.

yea im thinking about getting a high end bc i do have quite a bit of money to spend...I play poker online and ive made quite a bit of money, but anyways, if i were to get a 6800 do you guys think it would bottle neck with my system(look in my sig). Thanks
