Great for ESXi... It has Dell Next Business Day Warranty. It's a short depth server so it saves on space, heat and power costs.
New server is double the price! Tell your boss you can save them money and buy this great deal!

It's a good deal for an older server, you get one working GS12 server that's maxed with the memory and one non working GS12 memory for parts, I remember having issues with teh motherboard so you may be able to swap it out with the mobo of your choice, has 2 slots for hard drives :-D make an offer :-D or trade something :) I believe in the Ferengi Great River... :)
 
Yes, be environmentally friendly and buy <strikeout>used</strikeout> well tested equipment! You can use memory to label those USB drives! or stick it on your keychain so you don't lose keys! Or mount them on your wall and turn them into Art! Or just donate to your local charity and get a tax deductible receipt!

On a scale of 1 - 10 how loud are the GS12 servers? I always find it hit or miss on 1u servers. I'd probably take them off of you if it isn't ridiculously loud.

I think that's a relative question. It's loud when you turn on the server because it spins all hte fans at full speed, but once it was running, it was "normal" and on par with the other rack stuff. However, I did run it in a room with other computers and devices running.

If absolute silence is 0 and 5 is the "average normal sound of computers running", I'd say these are probably a 4-6? They're about on par with my current Dell Powerconnect 2824 Switch, but I ran them in a rack with a Cisco and 3COM Switch and those were louder. I'd say that Cisco switch was a 6-7. The dual 40mm fans up front can spin at a pretty high speed and those P4s ran a bit hot.
A Dell 2850 which would prob be a 7-9, and the newer Dells are pretty quiet once they're turned on, 3-5?. In my rack, the Dell Powerconnect 2824 (prob 5) is usually louder than my Dell R210s, unless the R210s are running at full load and the fans kick in. I have a small personal Honeywell room fan that is slightly louder than the powerconnect at min setting. Full setting gives me the loudest burst of cold air in that room. I probably wouldn't that run that in my normal room... but in my rack in an out of the way closed room/closet.

And just to make sure you read the description right, That's TWO GS12s, one works, one doesn't boot. The issue was mobo related, FULL Disclosure, I was too lazy to really look into, but knew it would take time to troubleshoot and I couldn't get a replacement mobo if that was the issue. Might be salvageable/fixable or you could hack another mobo to fit. the coolest part about the server was the shallow depth and the LCD up front. :) Comes with rails, nonworking server has no ram... Price includes shipping and I think I have at least one of the original boxes, maybe both...

Buy them now and I'll throw in um... free newspaper? need sata cables? or old out-of-warranty hard drives to keep the screws in? :-p Free? I'd ship you healthy frozen yogurt, but I don't think that would go well with the servers :-p Make an offer if you want. :D
