well, i formatted my harddrive today. everything went smoothly. so xp pro starts up and everything is running fine. i try to go to the avg antivirus site but lo and behold,

detecting proxy settings....

unable to connect.

"wonderful!" i say. so i tried disabling and re-enabling the NIC. no luck there. right-clicked on the network connection and tried to repair it. all that happened whenever i did that was that the program stopped responding. usually after i format i never have to do anything related to networking. it just works. this time it doesnt tho.

err hold on 1 sec....

hrmph.... well, i know i am connected to the internet because i ALREADY HAVE THE MSBLASTER WORM. that goddamn worm.... ugh. anyway, does anyone know why i cannot connect to anything involving the internet? i know the connection is active due to the blaster worm but IE doesnt work, trying to update my antivirus through the internet doesnt work... it baffles me.

if you need more info i will be checkin this thread often, just say so.

thanks a bunch

1st thing.. Unplug from the 'net.
Get rid of the worm.
turn on the firewall in windows. (right click LAN connections, properties, advanced, protect this connection or something)
replug it in.
get an ip again.
can you ping the 'net?
(type command, then c:\[whatever]\ping www.yahoo.com
do you get a reply?
in ie, turn off "auto detect proxy" 'cause you don't need it.
try again...
