So im about to upgrade to a ds3, with a e6400 and I was going to take the memory from my old computer, 2x512mb pc4200 ddr2 533 and put it into the new computer.. however I noticed on newegg's website this..

"Notice: Only DDR2-800 memory supporting JEDEC approved 1.8V operation with timings of 5-5-5 or 6-6-6 is supported on Intel Desktop Boards based on Intel 965 Express Chipsets."

So my question is do I need to upgrade to ddr2 800 or can I pass with this 533? I know its 1.8V and 4-4-4, this should hopefully be able to boot up with no problems?

your thoughts?

at stock you can run the board with ddr2 533. (1:1 ratio with 4-4-4 timings)

You can probably run your ram at ddr2 667 speed (5:4 ratio with 5-5-5 timings)

But don't expect a huge overclock. Most ddr2 ram can go up one speed notch with extra voltage and/or looser timings.

The warning on that is about how many "expensive" fancy ddr2 800 ram requires more than 1.8v which becomes a problem.

You won't/shouldn't have a problem with any 800mhz ram. I actually have 1066mhz ram in my ds3 now. Good ram 'should' boot up at JDEC standards (800mhz - 1.8v)

Does that help?

Yeah that does help, my biggest fear was that I would order the mobo, stick my memory in and it wouldn't post but im glad to see that shouldn't be a problem, thanks :)

I used some DDR2 533 memory when I first got my DS3 just to be able to flash the BIOS up to F5 so it would handle my Ballistix memory.
