Hello fellas, I'm trying to get some more juice out of this now somewhat aging X48 system, I've attempted overclocking before but never made it past 3.2 GHz. The past few months it's been running stock as I've just had not had time to fiddle with it and I wanted it fully stable.
The players are:
Intel Core2Quad Q6600 G0
Gigabyte GA-X48-DQ6
Mushkin 996599 PC-8500 DDR2 1066 4 GB (2+2)
Now, the thing that I am trying to get out of the way first is this. The RAM is rated to work at 2.1V. With all the voltages left in stock in BIOS, (DDR2 Overtoltage: Normal), the BIOS will report that the RAM is running at 2.06V or something around that value.
However, all Windows utilities keep telling me the RAM is running at 1.8V, and on other forums I was told to set DDR2 Overvoltage to +0.30V to bring the RAM to the factory rated value of 2.1V (as it was supposedly undervolted on stock settings).
But when I do this and the PC turns off to apply the settings, when it turns back on, I hear a *click* from the case, and then it just shuts off. Sometimes it makes it into Windows, but usually upon the next restart, it will just click again and shut down.
Should I trust the BIOS and assume the RAM is already running at spec despite that the Windows utilities report it being undervolted and these recommendations everywhere to add +0.3V to the RAM?
Thanks
