How does one get the Dolby Atmos to work on PC and mobile ... or at least to work with headphones? Dolby Atmos works on Overwatch but, at Origin it shows up but is greyed out as if to be an option but not yet for Star Wars Battlefront and Battlefield 1.

Announcing Dolby Audio for high performance audio in Microsoft Edge

I'd like to see a mobile device with a minimum of 9 speakers and 2 subs which the gimped down home version of Atmos requires lol.

There are Atmos (and DTS:X) demo MKV's that you can download and play on your PC. My receiver immediately recognizes the format and plays it fine via HDMI-out. Never knew Overwatch supported it. I'll have to give it a shot and see.

Last I looked, Atmos in Overwatch is only for headphone surround virtualization, so it probably won't be beneficial if you're using speakers. Let us know, though.

From my experience with a 5.1.2 setup... Overwatch's Atmos setting is for a simulated Atmos experience. It's meant to only be used with 2.1.
They tell you to turn off any virtual 7.1 that your headphones support, and I'd imagine it's for this reason. When it's turned on I only get sound from my F/L + Sub, (2.1). Maybe it'd sound great if I directly put the 2 speakers to the left and right of me.

When I click the option off, I go back to my full surround sound. I still get the use of my overhead speakers, like if someone's above me. You can leave your Setup/Info Display from your reciever on your TV/Second monitor while you play a game and it will tell you the exact processing. I know for instance (I'm at work so I can double check this later), the sound processing from Battlefield 1 is at 48khz while Overwatch is 192khz. I wonder if it will tell me if it's PCM or Atmos, or what...

I would imagine the phone just has the simulated Atmos codec for 2.1/Headphones, like Overwatch. Just like EAX and A3D in the 90's, it seems kind of sad we're barely trying to get back to something we already had available for headphones 20 years ago.

I'm not a audiophile, just sharing what little I know.

I pulled up Overwatch and it directly says it's only for headphone virtualization. Even when I enabled it, it doesn't send an Atmos stream to my receiver. The 5.1/7.1 audio for speakers is still quite good, but it's definitely not using an Atmos stream, either.

I remember someone mentioning that Star Wars Battlefront used Atmos, but I don't have that one to test it out. I've still only experienced it via MKV downloads and demonstrations.

Atmos is not only a playback mechanism, but a sound mixing mechanism.

So the term Atmos doesn't mean 7.1.4 for home theater necessarily. It can just be mixed with the technology to receive the label.

Atmos doesn't have a set number of speakers. I always dream of winning the lotto because then I could buy something like this:

And start hooking up my 64 speakers... just cause.

Though the marketing is geared towards the sounds/speakers targeted at audio above the normal 5.1/7.1 plane. (So 5.1.2/4, 7.1.2/4, 9.2, 11.2, etc. I haven't seen any products for consumers for anything above those yet, if you have a link I'd like to peek. That new Creative soundbar bar claims 15.2, 11.2.4. That would be interesting though it's $4000 http://us.creative.com/soniccarrier/ I'd just like to see a 15.2/11.2.4 speaker configuration so I can see what that entails)
I wouldn't ever spend $4000 on a soundbar...

I have Battlefront, Battlefield 1. Once I adjusted from headphones I could never go back. So I had to buy an appropriate microphone not to annoy my friends.
I currently use upward firing speakers, but I'd like to also try a slightly different setup in the future.

run your computer audio through a receiver or processor for atmos speakers. the atmos headphone is software to emulate surround with 2 speakers and I don't think it sounds good.
