Disapointed with performance... =(

I've got:

Pentium 4 1.6 Gigahertz
512 MB Ram
9600XT

At low quality with 800 by 600 I get around 13-20 fps...

I'm very disapointed with this, it's like playing the alpha again..
 
You need a new processor. 1.6ghz isnt just fast enough to push all that data to the video card.

I'd suggest you check out the tweak guide. Also download the latest drivers and defrag your hard drive.
 
Is that SDRAM your motherboard is using? I have to ask, because a lot of the non-northwood 423's used SDRAM.

In which case you need to upgrade the whole platform.

If that's the case, I agree. Sell that box to your relatives and upgrade that p200mmx shiz they're running. You know the relative I'm talking about. They will think they're l337.
 
well, i run it at 800x600 with medium settings on a 9600pro, which is now back at stock bc d3 caused crashing. that is with an aXP 3200+, so id have to say it is his processor. i never notice a lag at these settings
 
what's your FSB? because not only does your cpu speed matter but the speed at which you are transfering data across your bus.

At 640 by 480 on low quality, the game is kind of playable.. I had to disable shadows =(.
