hey guys,

I hope there is a quick answer here. The HD in my laptop failed, needs a replacement. No way to boot to windows so I need a program that will run off my usb flash drive and recover some files off the drive before they replace the whole thing.

Any programs you know off hand that will help me with this?

Ended up d/ling Ubuntu, burning the image (using my wife's computer), and running the OS from the CD. I was able to recover all my files I need. I really liked the set-up too, so I might install it instead when my hard drive is replaced.

thats good news.

i you ever have a crashed partition that is no longer readable even if plugged into another pc, r-studio works well. saved me a couple times over the years. i know the software can read trashed fat and ntfs file systems. not sure about others like ext or others.
