I have a core2quad q6600 g0....

If you are trying to build a low end machine it doesn't look that bad. http://www.cpu-world.com/Compare/95/AMD_Athlon_II_X2_240_vs_Intel_Celeron_Dual-Core_E3400.html (disclaimer, I found this with a quick google search, I dunno what the sites methodology is like) shows similar performance (the AMD wins some tests the intel wins others) for similar priced bottom end chips from intel and AMD (the intel chip is slightly cheaper but intel motherboards are more expensive).

Afaict with either LGA775 or AM3 you can get CPU+MOBO for under $100, with LGA1156 CPU+MOBO sems to start at over $150.

AMD II X4 is floating around as a good quad core solution; C2D is looking super cheap. LGA1156 is still $50 more than the LGA775. for 33% more $$ what performance benefit do you get?

While SB is nice, it seems to be to be a HTPC boost. For everyday desktops, the previous generation looks very tempting..not to mention very very cheap to build.
