Upgrading my son from an OLD AMD FX 8-core 8320 and 8gb ddr3.

My budget is anything, but the most important thing is "bang for my buck". I don't want the latest and greatest b/c it's overkill for price vs performance. For now I have a GTX 1080 gpu to pair this up with.

Mobo/CPU can be 2 years old, 3 years old, maybe more. I'm assuming something like a Ryzen 5 and DDR4 or better.

I am WAY out of touch with gaming/desktop hardware, not like some of you may remember me as being. I'm more into servers, and I do have a boatload of parts if anyone looking for a trade.

My heatware is over 1200+ flawless, here:

If you're a trustworthy trader, I can pay in almost any form that's within our rules here.

do you have a budget range/maximum you're looking for?
any requirements other than functional? mobo size itx/matx/atx? has multiple m.2 slots? etc etc
any color schemes or features that would be desirable?
anything you absolutely don't want?

(i might have a 9900k combo that fits the bill depending on the answers)

I could come up with an MSI tomahawk mb (think 570 wifi) and a r5 5600 and 32gb
Not sure if I have a cooler to go with it though
Would that setup work?

Good questions. Sorry I should have mentioned... prefer ATX, but mATX would work too. Prefer m2 nvme slot. Color preferred but not mandatory. Don't need a super overclocker. Ideally wanted to spend $150-300 and assumed that a good price point for something nice would be 200-250.

This could work if you fire off specs and pricing :)
Newegg has a 5600X, motherboard and 32GB of RAM new combo for $250 right now if you prefer to have a warranty.
This sounds extremely interesting. Do you have a link or know the combo so I can put that together?

Whoops sorry about that, I got it mixed with the one next to it. My fault.

Getting ready to sell a MSI MEG X570 ACE Gaming, 5800x, 32gb of G.SKILL (out for RMA right now). Shoot me a PM, will make a deal so its gone.

I've got a B550 gaming motherboard, 3700X, and 32 gigs of ram with a Samsung 980 Pro M2 NVMe 1gig drive that I'd do $170 shipped for the combo. The motherboard, ram, and 980 pro, all come in original packages.

You and I have had dealing in the past, but here is my Heatware: https://www.heatware.com/u/63394/to 442-0-0
This is really awesome of you. What a steal! If OP doesn't grab it I will and get it to somebody that could use an upgrade. Cheers.
