I had an old Sony CD burner in my new computer that died around one month ago (it had been fine before). To replace it I bought a new liteon CDRW. Lately it has been burning a few coasters (maybe 1/20), and today it has stopped reading CDs entirely. It begins to spin up, then stops after a few seconds.
I've checked all of the cables (even swapped them out) and tried a different IDE channel, none of which worked. Is there anything else I can try before buying a new drive? Is it just a coincidence that the computer killed both drives, or is there something to be worried about?
