Can't ping? Or can't get replies to your pings? There's a big difference there.

If you can't ping....(like you get an error of invalid command or something) something wrong with the OS like paths or something if command.com won't run ping for you.

If you can't get replies to your pings, sounds like a software firewall issue or a netbios issue...are you pinging by IP address or by netbios name?

i got ports to work
i spent like 7 hours so far with the port isue
i can open factory remote to router port,
but for manul open ports they say open but are closed in port scans
any idea's now its port isue

Could you give us more information? You can't ping because you have no IP address? Or because of an IPTABLES rule, or what? It's hard to troubleshoot without much info on your infrastructure.

It helps me to troubleshoot using the OSI model.. but that all depends on what you're having an issue with.

Good luck!

Backwoods,

What does your infrastructure look like? Are you connected to a router, switch, wireless, wired, modem? How many PCs do you have? Can you ping your loopback address, 127.0.0.1?

its vista tower i dont hate vista its nice for me
then i cat 5e going to dlink 2310 which is pluged into a ppoe modem.
i got one outer pc plugged in a xp lap top . which if i dump the fire wall i can ping from vista. why would ports not open when i ping

is there a seting in vista i need to enable when i get my test pc up
if it does the port open, then what ?
