I have a laptop that I can't get java installed on, Windows 7 Home Prem SP1 x64.

I can install x64 version, but not the x86 version. I successfully installed an older version of java 5 update 22 I think but when I checked for updates the update checker would fail when similar errors.

I've attempted to install using the offline installer as well the online installer with the same results. I disabled all AV and firewalls, checked for any infections nothing seems to be working here.

Soon I will be doing a fresh install on this thing if I can't get it figured out, I've already spent a few hours on this error.

Here are the two events that are generated when I run the Java install both online and offline versions:

Have you cleaned out all old versions (can be listed as J2SE Runtime Environment or Java 2 Runtime Environment)?

I've always installed Java. Then I realize, why? I don't use any java apps so why have a larger attack surface?. I removed it a few weeks ago and have no experienced a single issue without it.

Yeah I cleaned up just about everything I could find.

I successfully installed Java 7 build 1 but that's not really a fix. Most of the sites I tried report compatibility issues.

I've spent to much time on this as it is, time to image and reinstall.
