instead of a floppy? being that i don't have a floppy drive mainly. my friend says he was able to do it but he's not here at the moment so that i may ask him how he did it exactly. so has anybody else ever used the cd-rom instead of the floppy to flash the bios?

It's possible but I'd never do that unless I had a fat formatted HD. There is a floppy emulation mode for bootable CDs, so you could make a bootable dos CD. If all your drives are NTFS though you don't really have anywhere to save your current BIOS, and you really don't want to change it w/o backing up the old one- particularly when you're doing an "unsupported" flash like np->pro, pro->XT, 5900->5950, etc.
