Burnout Paradise too easy?

I have fond memories playing burnout revenge on my ps2 and now I've moved onto burnout paradise on the pc. I can understand the idea behind an open world racer NFS MW did this quite well but Burnout Paradise does this poorly. All the races in BP are way too easy as long as you can somehow stay on the right course with a decent enough car there is no chance you are going to lose. I'm currently up to the A license and still wondering where its supposed to get challenging.

Is anybody else finding this game way too easy?

I would think it would be hard to make this game "hard" because of all the things that can happen.

And I would not want really annoying things to happen just to make it hard(er). i.e. insane AI catchup and the game increasing the amount of traffic in front of me because I'm 1st in the race.

I'd rather the game be consistent and (almost) predictable and easy. Then simply unfair and frustrating. But there is always room for improvement.
