Thought this was odd, microcenter better watch out lol. I didn’t see any cases but they were literally just installing all this stuff when I walked by waiting on prescription.

Weird, I remember a number of years back our local Walmart had computer parts in it, then they removed them. I wonder if they'll come back here as well, it would be nice since BestBuy is in another city, and Microcenter is hours away.

I thought I read they dropped the 4070 to $549, Walmart didn't get the message :p

Makes sense. They might have some money to gain when there are only 26 microcenters in the US, there are a ton of walmart locations they could easily push MC out of the game.

I wouldn’t say that exactly, Microcenter isn’t on Walmarts radar, if they manage to push them out that’s incidental. Walmart is trying to keep pace with Amazon and Amazon moves a lot of hardware Walmart has the space and can easily keep a small case or 3, they need something to go where game displays went, as most things are sold digitally they are seeing they drop off so they don’t need nearly as much as they once did.

Oh i agree, microcenter isnt big enough to them. Walmart is big on rotating what is on a shelf if it doesnt move. We deal with them a lot and they just replace you with someone else even if you just barely fall below a threshold one time.

Id imagine seeing a game on a shelf doesnt sell it like it used to. Often people know what game they want when they head over there so shelf space makes sense to change to something else, put the games behind the counter and just let people ask for it.

Intel obviously paid off Walmart to not carry AMD, confirmed by my friend who works at Walmart and a guy on Youtube. :p
I guess disregard the MSI MAG B650 Tomahawk WiFi in that picture. I can't read what the out of stock CPUs are but presumably there would be one or two AM5 CPUs out of the 4 spots if they are selling an AM5 motherboard.

I would suspect a 7600x and maybe 7800x, but not the x3d parts.

Doubt it. Walmart will have a handful of items which would certainly be nice. But I doubt they will have anywhere near the variety that Microcenter has. A typical Walmart will have maybe 3-6 motherboard types is my assumption. A few PSU models, a few RAM models. I think they will primarily sell CPUs and SSDs if I had to guess, because unlike board and cases, there is less variety for those (that matter).

It's cool to have another source for parts. The more the better. Lets hope they compete the crap out of eachothger and help bring down retailer margins to benefit the customer.

There is something I have to say though:

I absolutely hate it when people use the terms "gamer", "gaming" or "gaming PC".

How about you are building a desktop? Why does everything have to be a "gaming <blank>" It's retarded.

I enjoy playing games on my computer on occasion, you'll never hear me refer to myself as a "gamer". Games are something I occasionally do, just like how I occasionally watch TV, occasionally watch movies, and occasionally read books. Games are not something that define me, and as such I won't be using a "gamer" label to describe myself.

Any time I see the term "gamer" or "gaming <blank>" I roll my eyes so far into the back of my skull....

The one I work at doesn't have a PC part case but we do have Gaming Keyboards mice and Mousepads. I just picked up the XL Razer mouse pad for 26.00 Back 25 years ago Walmart used to carry BFG GPUs. Our Walmart has Cyberpower prebuilts that are not too bad and some ok monitors but all LCDs.

Is that Fury Ram DDR5? Kinda weird they have so many options for it but I suppose for the different frequencies and sizes.

Wasn't walmart already one of the biggest sellers of computer part in the USA ?

Having to compete with newegg, amazon, etc... margin have been to the ground for a long time for part people are ready to shop for and know the price in advance, often at a net loss with everything taken into account, peripherals, cable, warranty, service tend to be where the money can be made, Intel CPU price for 1000 thousands tended to be known in the past and the difference with retail price was quite thin.

Went to Walmart last year to get a XBone controller and the only one they had was a open box one, turned out to be a well used one some dishonest person exchanged for a new one.

I can see the samething happening with the CPUs and GPUs.......

It definitely looks like somebody is paying them in some form for shelf space, which seems weird for PC hardware.

Except when the retailers sold GPU's 50-100% above MSRP just a couple of years ago...

Bought my first video card from Walmart back in 91 or 92. It was a Wang based on a cirrus logic chip. Sped up the VGA graphics on my 386sx 25 in Falcon 3.0.

I cant remember if they continued carrying parts up into the 3dfx era or not.

Well, based on my 20+ years of managing big-box retail stores, I can tell you some things for certain:

If Wallyworld starts selling a particular line of products, it's because of the following:

A) They're in it to win it.... which means they don't give a sh*t if another company suffers from their decisions, and if they push someone out of business, they've accomplished their goal !
B) The mfgr or distributor has paid them some serious $$ for the shelf space their products are gonna occupy
C) Their contracts contain iron-clad clauses that gives wally the indisputable right to set/change/reduce the prices as they see fit, change or move the displays around, and move non-selling items to the clearance rack whenever they feel like it, and replace it with something else
D) The last clause in the contract also says that wally gets unconditionally reimbursed for any & all expenses related to getting rid of said non-selling items AND procuring their replacements....

Say what you will about Wallyworld, good, bad, or otherwise, but they haven't got where they are by being nice or stupid or slack-assed....

Now this doesn't mean that I agree or disagree with everything they do, but still....

They have been remodeling ALOT of their stores in my area lately, some of which is related to market changes, some to get ready for the holidays, and as this thread highlights, to make room for new stuff !

Their buyers are very aggressive negotiators. They really firmly hold the stance of you need them more than they need you and that there's a line of companies behind you ready to fight for that shelf spot.

With the pathetic selection Walmart typically offers that doesn't seem likely. Maybe, but I hope not.

I'll look to swoop in when everything goes to the clearance aisle.

A few years back someone posted their receipts, something like $480 for Colt M4s when they cleared them out. Maybe if Walmart flops with this we can see similar deals but I doubt it.

I also don't think this would come to all Walmarts even if it did take off due to smash & grabs which is becoming a big problem in certain areas.

Well, normally, in those stores where that is an issue, the only thing inside the display cases are empty boxes and pull tickets, which you have to take to the register & pay for it first, to get your stuff :)

Several of the WM's in my area are in the process of installing said display cases, but as far as I can tell, only 2 of them will have actual products in them, the other 5 in & around the city & the other high-theft areas will not. But you still have to get an employee to retrieve the product, and then they will escort you to the register with it instead of handing it to you right there :D

The ones I've seen have metal bars behind the glass and a lock. Problem is they do it for things like shaving cream and razors as well. Only one I've been to that does that but for electronics, I assume they will do that or do what you said.

Walmart return policy is decent so it isn't a bad option if the price is right. Free returns with no shipping as well, plus holiday return period is something like 90 days although Best Buy also has similar. I won't complain about more options. Newegg/Amazon stick you with restocking fees or return shipping typically.

Hell, even at the Dollar stores in certain areas around me, they've locked up the laundry detergent, fabric softener, shampoo/conditioner, rubbing alcohol, pepto bismal, and a few other items as well...so sad that it has to be like this :(

Where is this Walmart located?
Like 10 miles from the home office. It's not really a regular store, there's a mini lego store inside of it. It also has a full on doctors office and dentist inside, although i'd rather we got the craft brew pub/sushi restaurant that's in one a few miles north. Kind of a joke post, i doubt pc parts show up at walmart stores anytime soon.
