I have a little over $500 now for a basic PC. Here's what I've picked out at Newegg:
https://secure.newegg.com/NewVersion/WishList/TemporaryWishList.asp?BundleExist=N

For those who don't want to click the link (or it doesn't work right):

SAMSUNG 20X DVD±R DVD Burner with LightScribe Black SATA Model SH-S203N - OEM - $33.99

COOLER MASTER Centurion 5 CAC-T05-UW Black Aluminum Bezel , SECC Chassis ATX Mid Tower Computer Case - Retail - $44.99 ($25 mail in rebate)

Western Digital Caviar SE16 WD5000AAKS 500GB 7200 RPM SATA 3.0Gb/s Hard Drive - OEM - $104.99

CORSAIR CMPSU-450VX ATX12V V2.2 450W Power Supply - Retail - $79.99 ($10 mail in rebate)

G.SKILL 2GB (2 x 1GB) 240-Pin DDR2 SDRAM DDR2 800 (PC2 6400) Dual Channel Kit Desktop Memory Model F2-6400CL5D-2GBNQ - Retail - $46.99

ECS 945GCT-M (V1.0) LGA 775 Intel 945GC Micro ATX Intel Motherboard - Retail - $49.99

Intel Pentium E2180 Allendale 2.0GHz LGA 775 65W Dual-Core Processor Model BX80557E2180 - Retail - $84.99

Microsoft Windows Vista 64-Bit Home Premium for System Builders Single Pack DVD - OEM - $111.49

Which comes to $583.05 shipped.

I know I'm not going to play games right away but will this system work fine if I add a nVidia Geforce 8800GTS 512Mb later on and be able to play Crysis (only using this as a benchmark) or other games like UT3, Gears Of War, etc on higher settings? I do plan on overclocking the E2180, I hear they can hit at least 3ghz pretty easy. So how will this budget build do?

BTW my current PC is a Dell Pentium 4 1.8ghz (Willamette 180nm with the 400 FSB), 512Mb of RAM, 80 gig hard drive, and a nVidia GeForce 3 Ti 200 64Mb of RAM running Windows XP Home edition. Yeah it's ancient, I bought it in May 2002... :) So right now just about anything is better.

I already have a Logitech MX700 mouse, keyboard, and a ViewSonic VX2025wm LCD.

Thanks in advance!

Looks good, I would wait on the video a little longer though. The Nvidia and ATI next gen offerings will be much better than what we have available right now. You would have a hard time running crysis at its max with the 8800 GTS. The other games will run fine on that card.

Looks like a great rig! You should have fun with it. I also think you should wait for the next gen video cards for a game like crysis.

Thanks for the comments! I changed my order around a little bit. Hopefully by mid next week I'll have a nice rig. For now though I got a cheapo graphics card instead of onboard video. I'll wait for nVidia to release some new cards for something better. Here's what I went with:

ABIT IP35V LGA 775 Intel P35 ATX Intel Motherboard - $97.99
SAMSUNG SpinPoint T Series HD501LJ 500GB 7200 RPM SATA 3.0Gb/s Hard Drive - $109.99
Intel Pentium E2180 Allendale 2.0GHz LGA 775 65W Dual-Core Processor Model BX80557E2180 - $84.99
Microsoft Windows Vista 64-Bit Home Premium for System Builders Single Pack DVD - $111.49
COOLER MASTER Centurion 5 CAC-T05-UW Black Aluminum Bezel , SECC Chassis ATX Mid Tower Computer Case - $44.99
Link Depot UV Power Cord into SATA Power Cable Model POW-UV-SATA - $1.99
Link Depot 39" UV Red Latch Serial ATA Cable Model SATA-L1.0-UVR - $1.59
SAPPHIRE 100184L-512HM Radeon X1300 512MB (128MB onboard) 64-bit DDR PCI Express x16 Video Card - $19.99
SAMSUNG 20X DVD±R DVD Burner with LightScribe Black SATA Model SH-S203N - $33.99
CORSAIR CMPSU-450VX ATX12V V2.2 450W Power Supply - $79.99
G.SKILL 2GB (2 x 1GB) 240-Pin DDR2 SDRAM DDR2 800 (PC2 6400) Dual Channel Kit Desktop Memory Model F2-6400CL5D-2GBNQ - $46.99

Which comes out to $667.82 shipped. Also the PSU and Motherboard have rebates which total $30 so that's not too bad.

I can't wait! :D
