Bridge Network Conections In XP

what does the "bridge network connections" feature in windows xp do? i mean obviously it connects them together but, how? and why would you want to?, and why is it use full?. what im really asking is could someone explain a situation why you would use a bridge?

well say your computer was on 2 networks, if you bridge them it pretty much makes one... i think

If you have two nic cards in your computer then the bridge allows a computer connected through card one talk to a computer connected through card two.
Lan 1 <-> Bridge <-> Lan 2.
