Is there a way to tell the OS what I have connected? I have unpaired and repaired but it always shows up as a keyboard and doesn't detect that there is audio associated with it. The headphones do have a mic so there is an input device component to the headphones. They are generic no name headphones. I have a Plantronics mono headset that I use for Skype and it works just fine.

Any ideas? my searches have turned up nothing.

This is probably happening because your headphones have buttons for switching stuff, answering calls/etc and it's being misinterpreted. Try disabling keyboard input on that device.
