As part of Best Buy’s restructuring program, it was announced on Friday that the company will be cutting an additional 2400 jobs in its quest to reduce costs by $800M by 2015.

About six hundred of the jobs will be from its 20,000-person Geek Squad service and repair unit with the other 1,800 coming from store staff.

You know I am sick and tired of the Obama this or Romney that. This has nothing to do with either of those idiots. The root of the problem for Best Buy is that they fell severely behinds the times. They did not learn from companies like Comp USA or Circuit City. Rather they rested on their laurels for to long and now its starting to hurt. Instead of trying innovate and keep up with the online retails back in the early to mid 2000's they just kept expanding by opening more stores. Best Buy will still be around in the next few years, I just suspect that at least half of the stores wont.

You make a substantially good point; but, the bigger picture in America is the rape of average citizens by greedy millionaires and billionaires that don't seem to get enough.

Well, if you want to read about it: http://www.nytimes.com/2012/07/06/opinion/off-and-out-with-mitt-romney.html?smid=go-share

But, if you just want to be cute, or wander aimlessly among the sheep, I guess you'll pass.

1) Yes, I was trying to be cute

2) They're both poor options and both will not fix anything. This will continue to happen. Best Buy just happens to have it coming, they will eventually go out of business, because everyone who runs the company is out of touch with the consumer.

I work at Best Buy right now, and am thankful that my store is gaining two positions. When any company is going through a post-golden-years restructuring these things are expected, but there are employee benefits coming as well that the media hasn't covered. I can't talk about them, but I don't see Best Buy going out of business next year, or the year after that.

Its a shame people are losing their job. Fell victim to this a few years ago with CCity. Luckily it was a blessing in disguise.

This isn't SoapBox so how about you stop with the political crap?

JOBs are both a Political and Economic issue. What kind of posts were you expecting?

No one cares about your political stance on the situation and that you think Romney is going to kill more jobs. Then you post a link to a very liberal bias news site to defend your statement. GJ

Job losses suck, even more than BB does.

I work in medical manufacturing and within the last year our plant alone has lost over 200 positions partly in thanks to a certain health care law that medical places will be getting taxed extra to help pay for it. When honestly it's the tobacco and alcohol companies that should be getting hit with it, not the ones who actually do something to help people.

Either way job losses suck and all it does is hurt the little guys who have families to feed.

The only thing good about best buy is its consistency. Sure, that consistency is of warm custard but at least if you find yourself with time to kill or you need a last minute cable in the middle of nowhere Iowa because you are visiting relatives, it is good to have. Otherwise, I don't see any reason to step foot inside the doors unless I want to do some "showrooming"

If Mitt Romney is elected, expect more layoffs.

If Barack Hussein Obama is reelected expect the status quo to continue
which is not acceptable.

Neither of these guys has the answer, but Obummer is failing and needs to
retire.

Don't worry the goverment is going to rape us with new taxes when ObummerCare
goes 100% next year.

So are ALL millionaires and billionaires greedy?

Politics in a thread about Best Buy's layoffs?

I'm pretty sure that Best Buy is laying off employees because they suck and not because of some random scapegoat running for or currently sitting in the "blame me for everything" seat of president. You people are being stupid heads!

Wish you and BB success, no one want to see jobs lost.

What happening at BB and other companies is just a sumptom of where the
economy is going under this POTUS.

Obummer says business "is doing just fine", he put his foot into the
economic mess, now he needs to pay the price for his stupidity.

Both parties suck, we have no real choice but to vote the lesser of
two evils....again.

Since when has the economy never been a political football?

Haven't you heard? It's always the president's fault. ;)

Yeah, but they are planning on stopping that show rooming, then what will they do?

Obviously you need to read about it.

The president's campaign fails to back up its claims that Romney 'shipped jobs' overseas.

You make a substantially good point; but, the bigger picture in America is the rape of average citizens by greedy millionaires and billionaires that don't seem to get enough.

Wrong, you are simply parroting the far Left Liberal politics of Envy & Despair. 44 months of 8.0+ unemployment. In fact, the lowest rate since O took office was 8.1% in April & its now 8.2%. Obama has not nor does he intend to create jobs, especially considering the Super majority he held for his 1st 2 years & the amount of money he spent.

Yeah, but they are planning on stopping that show rooming, then what will they do?

Become irrelevant is my guess. Microcenter/Fry's/Amazon FTW. I'm all for competition in the marketplace since it is usually good for the consumer but Best Buy isn't even competition anymore.

Hi! Can i interest you in insurance for your new BB purchase ? if u get our deluxe extended waranty , you are covered in case BB files for bankruptcy and will be one of the first people to not get any money from us.

Everyone who think Romney is the answer is smokin some good shit.

I live in MA. That asshole Romney passed RomneyCare that required you to purchase health insurance or you got hit with a a tax penalty of $101 per month or $1212 per year if you are 27+ years old and make atleast 32k a year. It scales down the less you make.

All his bitching about ObamaCare makes no sense when the blueprint comes from RomneyCare in MA.

As for being a great business man... well he's good at it when it concern's his own pockets. Under his watch the Big Dig was a massive failure that they are still fixing today. Fees on basic things in the state have gone up significantly thanks to the debt he put the state in.

Look at this interesting stat. When he was sworn in his first year he had a approval rating of 66% When he left office his approval rating was down to 39%

Unless your a 1%er your gonna get fucked no matter who is in office. Just stop drinking the Romney kool-aid.

There isn't a need for "Romney Kool-aid" when you have a verifiable Obama legacy that looks like this.

"When you look at the overall long-term unemployment rate in early 2008, it was about 9.5 percent. And when you look at where we are today, at 29.5 percent, you expect it to be worse [than where it was at the beginning of the recession], but it's more than triple where it was at the beginning of the Great Recession."

The first graph says it all. http://www.pewtrusts.org/uploadedFi...s/Addendum_Long-Term_Unemployment_May2012.pdf

Being "addicted to stupid" would sum up any Obama voter, at this point.

Any bets on how long before this thread gets locked? Anyways, I occasionally like to look around Best Buy but I rarely buy anything there anymore. There is just nothing they have that is even worth impulse buying except for an occasional Bluray movie.

Loosing a job does hurt though.

What happening at BB and other companies is just a sumptom of where the economy is going under this POTUS.

What's "sumptom" mean?

Since when has the economy never been a political football?

It's only discussed in relationship to politics by people who are mostly clueless about both economics AND politics.

Cut the political overtones in this thread now. If you want to talk politics, take it to General Mayhem and the Soapbox. No other warnings.

Best Buy has no one to blame but themselves. It seems to be an endless vicious cycle, some small chain pops up,starts growing by offering decent selection and lower prices, knocks off it's competitors and gets to the top of the hill. Then it gets greedy and arrogant, prices rise and customer service goes to hell, and the inevitable plunge to the bottom begins.

Could have seen this coming a year ago.

Three major problems at Best Buy, excluding their prices.

A) They no longer carry enthusiast or even mainstream computer equipment. This has been with Hello Kitty stuff for the most part. The stuff they do carry is either off brand, low end, or last years model. (This carries on to the other departments as well). .
B) Their sales staff don't know anything (or very little) about what they're trying to sell. I know they're aren't on commission, but come on... someone in the computer equipment section should KNOW something about computers. Not just something, be at least COMPETENT. It's been so long since I've been to a best buy where anyone knew what they were talking about I only go in their to kill time at the P3 demo with the kids
C) The support equipment is way overpriced... like cables, fans, etc. They need to stop with their 'own' crappy brand, and start outsourcing (better) to other brands.

Personally, I foresee Best Buy closing some stores after the end of the year... say about 20-30%.
They're restructure, reformat their online site (hopefully with better mobile support), and start specializing in mid level or higher end equipment.

Mis-spelled word, should be "symtom"...got that?

I believe the word you're looking for is symptom.

I have no faith in either party.
We need a new revolution, a new beginnning.

Obama is a left leaning socialist, that has shown he will interfere in the
free market place...ie. "the bailouts". His idea is we spend our way
into prosperity. But goverment doesn't create jobs, business does.

Romney represents liberal thinking Republicans, who think they
can cut 1% of total spending, and that will somehow solve the debt crisis.
His record on Romneycare in MA is not much better then Obummer.
He would be a clone of George Bush.

We, the people, are stuck again with no REAL choice...

Yup, sure...Best Buy laying off 2,400 employees has everything to do with politics. It's got nothing to do with the fact that they aren't running a sustainable business because they aren't competing on price, offer lousy service, and sell things that people aren't interested in buying from them. I'm sure Azhar and Heatlesssun stop and think to themselves, "Gee, the president set economic policies x, y, and z yesterday so I'm going to shop at Best Buy instead of ordering my new S3 Trio PCI graphics card online."
