I am looking for the best bang for the buck display i can get for mostly internet surfing and ocaisonal old school warcraft3 gaming. I have a 37" widescreen westinghouse w3 monitor running as my tv in the living room and had the computer hooked to it for a couple weeks and its just way too big and I hated the stretching of everything in all 5-6 display sizes i tried. I dont have money for a fancy video card either. I'm running a nvidia gf 6200 i think.
I have a cornea ct1700 standard 17" lcd thats was about $450 4 years or so ago at newegg and its still running great no dead pixels or any other problems and Its been used 3-6 hours a day since new. I am using it on my old computer now so the wife can have her own. and the 17' crt that came with her computer doesnt fit on her desk so im stuck using that for now cuz it does fit on my desk.
I just need something small 17" or 19" standard screen lcd. are there any good deals out there on good monitors?
thanks,
Ryan

There should be no stretching with your westy, its a 1:1 display. Just set your output to 1920x1080 and everything will be properly proportioned.

my video card doesnt support that and I have my computer in a different room. im just looking for a good 19" non widescreen monitor

I'm not sure why your card doesn't support that. IIRC, my MX420 and 5950U output 1920 x 1080 to my monitor just fine. Have you tried updating drivers or trying to set a custom resolution in the nVidia Control Panel?

Also, from my findings, a good 19" is hard to get now. I'd personally step up to a good w/s 20" like the Dell 2007fp.

are any of these any good?

A Westinghouse LVM-37W3 going to waste for gaming purposes? I can't think of a more tragic and depressing situation. You're lucky to have one of those monitors, as they are extremely difficult to find nowadays.... the 37w3 is a fantastic performer as a PC monitor.

If you're not getting 1920x1080 from your current graphics card, find out if you can. If you can't, get a new one.
It would be a far better investment to fully utilize that beautiful screen than to spend the same (or possibly more) on a small 19" monitor with limited uses.

You can get a nice 7600GS for under $100, it should handle older games like Warcraft 3 with total ease at that resolution.

Viewsonic vx922. 2ms. i have it and i would call it the perfect 19" LCD.

finally, thank your for referring a product. I'll check it out.

as for my 37" westinghouse I bought it new at shopko the day after thanksgiving for $814 what a smoking deal. I havent had a problem with it, but like i said the 37" is in my living room being used as a tv and i have a small desk crammed in my dining room that i need a smallish 19-20 monitor for. sitting at a desk is much more comfortable for typeing and using a mouse as well as where i store my bills, print stuff and have the rest of my gadgets that i dont want cluttering up the living room.

I have about $150-$300 to spend on a good monitor and my current video card is fine so im not wasting more money upgrading it for a screen i have to turn my head to look at each side and is being used to watch tv about 6 hours a day already.

plz ppl please refer more 19-20 inch non widescreen monitors.
thanks,
Ryan

I'd have to put my vote in for the L1933TR-SF. I'm using one right now (didn't like widescreen too much) and it's quite nice. It has the drawbacks of a TN panel like the viewing angles that took me some getting used to over a CRT, but the average computer user won't notice it. Colors look really good, the thing is fast too. Can't beat LG's customer support either. First one I bought had some backlight issues. LG sent another one out second day air with a pre-paid box :)

I guess my biggest concern and most important part in which one i pick is how easy is it on the eyes. I tend to sit in front of the thing for at least 3 hours at a shot. does pixel pitch have anything to do with this? is a higher or lower number better?

Smaller pixel pitch is better, but IMO the native res of a 19 5:4 is okay{my buddy has 2XBenq.....FP91 19 or something.....but I'm not recommending this monitor, although I think it's been replaced}.
