bad batch of 9700 pro? how can i tell?

im about to purchase a 9700 pro from a friend of mine, and he bought it when it FIRST came out, im guessing an early batch...

he had problems with it in games, but im guessing those are just driver issue, now that everyone is still using them

is there a serial number (batch wise) i should look out for?

or is there a link to a site i can check it with?

The first versions reportedly had a stability problem working with AGP 8X boards. The 3.0 revision which came out a few months after launch was supposed to have fixed this.
