Going to be running Kerio Personal Firewall, which antivirus should I run with it...
AVG is free and fairly reliable but Symantec is a little better quality (but not Free) would it be better to run AVG (which runs quite well with Kerio I've read) or Go with the symantec and worry about the Renewal costs?

AVG + Free = Winner.

I prefer AntiVir though. I also prefer Kerio v215 as it is a much simplier UI and uses the less system recources.

I had noticed that Kerio is Bundling AVG and Kerio Together for $55, Or you can download the Special "Kerio" version of AVG from the AVG Website... Dont think you can download the v2 Kerio Anymore.

Kaspersky Antivirus is much better than both of those combined. Sad thing is though... AVG is actually better than Mcafee or Norton, it has a higher detection rate...

Get Kaspersky.

no, wrong. AVG Free > Symantec. go get it.

Definitely Symantec Corporate.

AVG Free is great at finding viri..It just sucks at removing them, unlike SAV

I used to use AVG because everyone and their mom uses it if they dont use norton, and people seem to think its the only free AV out there.

But from my experience AntiVir does a MUCH better job than AVG and it detects a whole heck of a lot more crap when you are unzipping files, browsing folders and what not. AVG just doesnt work as hard as Norton or AntiVir.

At least consider AntiVir and check it out if you are going to even be considering AVG. AntiVir does daily updates, is lite and just fuckin pwnz!

right, which is why the Open Source community exists...

I really dislike AVG personally because, like some of the ealier posters, I have found that its removal abilities are way below acceptable. I like antivir the best as far as free AV goes, but for stuff that you are going to pay for, I love NOD32. It is by far the best antivirus program I have ever run, even better than Kaspersky.

BTW, I have no specific problem with Symantec Corporate and I would take it over AVG anyday. Symantec's corporate stuff is light years beyond their consumer AV.

hmm, idk about Symantec corporate but Norton sucks ballsac. It's bloated, bad, and vulnerable (since it's so popular) to viruses that target it.

It entrenches itself in your system, is almost impossible to fully install (i had to reformat), and slows you down like three shots of tequila.

I have used the corporate version before and it is a whole different animal. It is not bloated, does not bitch at you incessantly, and seems to do a really good job. I just haven' t used it enough to recommend it thoroughly.

I use AntiVir and like it a lot, but both AVG and AntiVir are great.

Having recently gone through a format/reinstall and having tried this exact combination of antivirus packages, I would definitely recommend SAV over AVG.

i use avg, but after these posts i'm considering antivir. how's antivir removing functions compared to avg's (which we all know are less than stellar)? i just want to know what's the best free av software out there given i'm too cheap to buy one.

Symantec corp all the way. I am using ver 8 and love it. I have my server d/l def every night and pushes the updates to all my other machines. I never see it or even know it is there unless there is a virus. The tray icon shows up for a sec when you log in when it checks the server for updates, then runs completely in the backround. Managed symantec corp rocks.

I'm a new fan of SAV 10 (In my previous post I indicated I was using SAV 9, actually I'm using SAV 10). Let me post some pictures to clarify the difference between NAV and SAV.

is not the same as this:

Likewise:

is not the same as this:

Here are some screenshots of the services it installs in the background:

I just had to deal with this on a lady's computer I was working on. She said she wasn't able to download windows updates, update adAware or upate Norton.

I checked it out. Live Update was able to update norton components, but not the virus definition files. It kept complaining about not being to overwrite an in-use file. I killed and stopped every service and app that you are allowed to, but it kept complaining that it couldn't update, even after a restart and disabling auto protect and all that. No matter what I did, it wouldn't update. Plus it would make me redownload the updates each time I tried. Plus, it made the computer restart once after just viewing the live update options. Plus, if I tried to view norton options, it would crash. I disabled norton, but that didn't fix anything with updating adaware or windows update, but I knew norton was the problem. So I decided to uninstall it.

Uninstalling Norton would not work. It kept failing and reinstalling itself like a virus. Finally, I manually removed it, all its drivers and all its registry entries etc. just to get rid of it. That took quite a while. I think it would have been easier to write my own virus to eraticate norton.

When I restarted the computer, boom, everything works fine again including windows update and adaware.

Then, I installed AVG and all is well.

Now, I didn't have to wipe out the hard drive, but that would have been faster than uninstalling Norton.

So again I say "Run from any symantec norton products".

Some say that Norton is good at removing viruses, but can it remove itself? Can it update itself?

Now this isn't just a single case. I've seen this same type of crap happen on 90% of the time.

It may work for some, but the success rate is not high enough.

Now Symantec Corporate 9 may work better, but I'll never touch it and if I see it, it'll get removed.

If you ever have to dump a norton install, you should look up "symnrt" on the symantec site. It is a manual uninstaller that will kill all of its remnants without you having to comb the registry.
