I recently purchased both a new Sharp Aquos 46 in HI-Def TV, and an X-BOX 360. The speakers on this TV are absolute crap and I need something better but I have no idea what I am looking for.

I plan on using the TV mostly for Football, Blu-Ray Movies and the X-BOX. Any good speaker suggestions for me? I'd like to stay at $500 or below. I'm assuming any speaker solution would hook up thru HDMI for the best clarity? Below are the inputs for the TV and the X-Box has HDMI if that helps.

Any help is appreciated.

TV - Sharp Aquos LC-46E77UN.

5 x HDMI input ( 19 pin HDMI Type A ) , 2 x HD component input ( RCA phono x 3 ) , 1 x S-Video input ( 4 pin mini-DIN ) , 4 x Audio line-in ( RCA phono x 2 ) , Composite video input ( RCA phono ) , 1 x Serial ( 9 pin D-Sub ) , 1 x VGA input ( 15 pin HD D-Sub (HD-15) )

Onkyo 507 is decent with HDMI audio/video switching. Runs around $280s.

and you have a nice sounding 5.1 setup for around $500

Or you can go for a fairly nice HTIB for around $529

The tv also has an optical (toslink) digital audio output, according to the manual.

The "proper" solution would be to buy a receiver that can decode & split off the audio from the hdmi, and use that to switch your video and audio sources. You need to read the specifications, some of the cheaper hdmi models only do switching - and cant use the audio on the hdmi cable.

If you had an older non-hdmi receiver with an optical input, you could hook that up to the output on the tv, but you may not be getting the original audio passed to the tv. My samsung tv converts a lot of signals to stereo/pro-logic so you may lose some of the surround sound stuff.

Or with an older receiver you could hook the audio from your devices up seperately from the video. With the xbox you have to buy their hdmi cable pack which includes a slim optical port adapter thing. The regular adaptor blocks the hdmi port or something.
