I have the opportunity to get either one for around $70-$75, which card is better?

They are pretty even actually in performance. They trade blows depending on the game and resolutions.

I'm playing World of Warcraft, Team Fortress 2, Call of Duty 4 @ 1440x900 ... hope that bit of info helps.

What the poster above said. If you prefer one company over the other one, go with that one.

I'll go with the ATI X1900XTX 512MB. Here's why the x1900xtx can do AA with HDR and it can fold.

Yeah I agree with Cypther. On some games (oblivion for example), the ATI X1000 series can do AA+HDR whereas the 7series cannot.

first 1900xtx has superior iq second i think it is faster than 7900gtx especially in new games

Yep, XTX is on average 20% faster than the GTX overall. The GTX can overclock maybe 5-10% more, but it is not as reliable as the XTX. I've heard of GTX memory failing in maybe more than 10% of the cases!

good deals! curious where'd you find them ?

They were on Ebay, 99.9% sellers.
As it turned out, I got outbid at the last moment, but I was able to pick up a nice X1900 512MB for $80 (including S&H) so I don't feel at all bad -- looks like overclocking is the next step for me ;)

any one who says the x1900xtx is significantly faster than the 7900gtx is full of shit. try enabling some sort of transperency aa, then come back and tell me how much faster it is. the x19's only advantage is texture filtering. op, get the ati.

anything since Bioshock is a joke on the 7 series. The x19xx series is still holding strong, even today.

Definitely not true. My 7950GT (256mb) is still running everything I throw at it great. My monitor's native res is only 1280x1024, but so far there is only one game that has forced me to run non-native (*cough, crysis, cough*). I pull mid 30s in CoD 4 @ a mix of mediums, same as my friends X1950Pro - our two cards handle all the latest and greatest games pretty much the same

Yes, the 7950gt is on par with the x1950pro, but

The x1950pro has 25% less processing power than the x1950xt/x1900xtx. 36 shaders (12 pipes) vs 48 shaders (16 pipes)

The x1950xt is definitely faster than the 7950gt in newer games.

I have had both XTX and GTX on my 2 computers at the same time.

Everybody knows the XTX to be "somewhat" faster than the GTX, like as if in 5-20%. However, when overclocking both, the advantage that XTX has is decreased by like 5%, thanks to GTX's slightly greater overclockability.

Simply put, the XTX is 20% faster in newer games that are more shader-intensive (nearly all of the newer games are extremely dependent upon shaders). 7900GTX is possibly faster in older gamer thanks to 24 TMU's, especially shown in 3DMark 03 (although only at the default resolution, but when increasing the resolution with FSAA, the XTX actually ends up FASTER).

This is old news, old news my friends. Just check out dozens of different benchmark comparison out there on the 'net. There is a recent one on www.techpowerup.com that compares both GTX and XTX against the newer cards in newer games.

Why not go for X1950XTX, which is much quieter, cooler, and even faster than X1900XTX? Another cool version is HIS IceQ3 X1900XTX--the one I had that came at 700MHz (with blue UV-reactive heatsink) that was the coolest thing out at its time.

Some examples: In Company of Heroes, X1900XTX is 36% faster than 7900GTX across all resolutions. In UT3, X1900XTX is a whopping 42% faster than 7900GTX across all resolutions, on average. That would allow a considerably higher visual quality whereas the 7900 would make it unplayable.

They are about even.. The XTX is NOT 20% faster.

In any newer games the x1900 is way faster than the 7900's. I couldn't find any benchmarks comparing the two in crysis except for a Gamespot review, but they say that the x1900 is over twice as fast as the 7900gtx. The 7900gtx also slower than the 8600gts/2600xt in crysis according to gamespot

I have reinstalled my old X1900XT, as I recently sent my g92 8800GTS in for a $10 stepup to the 9800GTX, and I had forgotten just how loud this card is. Its not too bad at idle, but the thing is a jet engine when gaming. :)
