hello, which gpu should i get out of the two? Apparently there is problems with the 5770 but which is more powerful and which one would play CoD: Black Ops and GTA IV better? My spec is- Intel Core i3-550 @3.2ghz-- 450w PSU-- 4gb ddr3 kingston ram. Also would the CPU be a bottleneck?? cheers. :)

Which problems do you speak of? The gts250 is as fast as a 4850, the 5770 is as fast as a 4870 and overclocks very well. Your cpu will not be a bottleneck for either GPU's.

well on youtube there is videos of 5770's textures displacing and bsods, which gpu is better for the games i will be playing? [EDIT] also will a 450w psu be enough to power either of these GPUs?

Please list the exact PSU you have. They all perform differently.

Never had any of those issues you listed. People will always bitch if they have problems with a product regardless of how good it is.

What PSU do you have? I don't see it being a problem as the 5770 doesn't use much juice.

well i have got my custom pc from PC Specialist and when selecting the PSU it just says 450w Dual Rail PSU :S. I know this is a bit stupid but i havent even got the PC yet i will have it on xmas day :). I will take of the side panel and inspect the PSU for branding etc.

I've never heard of any widespread issues surrounding the 5770, if there is an issue like that then I would rma it.

Post back when you find out the make and model of the psu.

450W is plenty for a 5770, that thing sips power and overclocks very nicely. At idle it uses 18W and at max load only 108W and it is faster than the GTS450.

I have crossfire 5770 and have none of these problems you speak of. What resolution will you be gaming at.

neither of those cards are decent for either of those games. but the 5770 is the better choice by a long shot. since you will already be massively cpu limited in GTA IV the gpu performance wont matter.

What are you talking about? the 5770 is fine for COD:BO

his cpu is fine for GTA 4 and it actually does better than some true quad cores in that game. and a 5770 is just fine for Black Ops.

5770 it is then! i will be gaming at 1920x1080 (1080p) :D

its a great little card. but if your on a budget they have some really cheap 460GTX 768mb floating around in the hot deals forum as well. take a look.

as for the GTX450 it shouldn't even be considered. (look at the poll result). what Nvidia was thinking with this one I don't know.

would a GTX460 768mb be much worse than a GTX460 1024mb? if not then i will get a GTX460, also with a GTX460 would a 450w PSU be enough to power the card?

its slower (smaller memory bus) but right now its a hell of a deal. and as asked above what kind of PSU is it? if its a good brand then yes. if not then no. if your unsure then go with the 5770. but you really should make sure first. look at it and post the info.

the psu is by a company called FSP GROUP INC. it might be made by a different company but thats what it says on the PSU. Got a pic of my new rig:D
sorry about crappy phone pics

HD 5770 if its between those 2. If you can go with a GTX 460, get the GTX 460.

Interesting landslide for the HD5770. I'm not really sure why. Nobody seems to like the GTS450. It's reasonably efficient [similar TDP to the 5770], seems marginally faster than the 5770 in benchmarks, and is cheaper than the 5770 most of the time.
The OP also mentions BlackOps, which is predominantly nvidia-biased.
Now I'll be straight here, I don't like nvidia much as a company at all. I think they're devious, I think they make mediocre-quality products, but nonetheless I do wonder if the GTS450 might not have been the better tool for the job here (I still voted 5770 for a general standpoint, I'm feeling a bit guilty about it now!)

I'm looking at some benches and I see that in almost all cases, the 5770 beats stock GTS450s and ties with factory-overclocked ones. If you're going to get any kind of OC out of the 5770, it'll be easily faster than the GTS450

Hmm, win for some, loss for others. I do admit though, benches aren't as rosy for the 450 as they once were. Perhaps the AMD drivers have matured a bit.

Decided to go with the 5770 and I'm loving it! I can play Bad Company 2 on full settings and CoD4 on full settings! Going to try out GTA IV tomorrow. Got the card for £80! bargain lol, It is the Powercolour one and I have overclocked to 900Mhz :)

The HD5770 is a great card and is very low power compared to the competition.
