...That I am running which? I have 2 identical Maxtor 6Y120P0 drives (120GB), and my MoBo can also support ATA133. My rig is at the bottom of my signature.

Also I just got a Promise Ultra100 dual channel IDE card, so I can attach my 3rd Maxtor hdd (200GB) and IDE (ATAPI???) DVD-RW unit.

Can I do that?

Many thanks in advance.

The IDE card that I have is a PROMISE pdc20267 model. Is it old? If so, will it "degrade" my system's date transfer rate?

Many thanks again!

Oh and my system:

Pentium®4 2.4B GHz
Abit IT7-MAX2
Mushkin DDR 2700 [1GB Total]
ATi RADEON™ 9800 Pro [128MB]
Maxtor 120GB 7200RPM (8MB Cache) HDDs (X2 - 240GB Total)
Sound Blaster Audigy2 Platinum
Antec Preformance Series 430W Case
Plextor UltraPlex [Reader - SCSI] - PlexWriter [Writer - SCSI]
Adaptec AHA-2940UW SCSI Host Adapter
Pioneer A106 DVD-RW/+RW [IDE]
ViewSonic P220fb Professional Monitor [Primary] - PT810 [Secondary]
Microsoft® Windows XP® Professional OS

no

it will work just as well as any onboard controller

i have that exact same controller card

for all intensive purposes ATA133 is just marketing hype
its effectively the same as ATA100

the slight difference affects the burst rate only(133 vs 100MB/s), something that isnt what youd call "typical" access, your "normal" sustained transfer is from 30 > 50 MB/s, but real world trnafers are much more intermittent

try this BusTrace IDE Bus Utilization Monitor (freeware)

and read As the Disk Spins @ Lost Circuits

i have a Promise PDC20271 and would like to use it
solely as additional ide channel with only one hd.
did not find an option for this.
my hd is being put into a "striping 1+0" and appears within
windows but has read/write errors all the time, slow boot also.
crappy performance - somethings wrong.
any clue on this ? he hd performs fine when connected to the
standard ide-channels

PDC20267
PDC20271

actually I dont even recognize those designations,
and I have a Promise SX6000 :p

what are they "called"
I'll try a little research

promise's plain old IDE controller card, ATA-100, for 30 bucks or something like that.

you know, the one you can mod into a RAID card with a few resistors on the bios chip...

the card wont support ATA133 but that is no great loss
(as I mentioned above)
it also wont support ATAPI probably, so no opticals
(test it and see I could be wrong) but its using SCSI drivers
and while ATAPI is SCSI like its not SCSI

A striped and mirrored array all on the same drive
0 Striped + 1 Mirrored
no wonder there are errors, thats a minimum of 4 drives in a typical array (where each is a master), again I dont have alot of info with that desgination, is there a JBOD option? (Just a Bunch of Disks)
