This card can perform worse than the reference card due to the screws not being all the way tightened down. I had to rip the warranty sticker off to tighten the screws on the GPU to lower the junction temp. Lots of reports of that happening just a FYI.

The Microcenter nearby me had a few Open Box 7900 XTX's for $850 (an Asrock and there used to be a Powercolor, but that got snatched up), for what it's worth, so maybe check yours if you have one nearby. Your mileage will obviously vary.

Have noticed my hot spot on my 7900xt is about 25c higher at times than the rest of my GPU.

Is this normal?

So if I'm hitting 70c, the hotspot will be 95c easily - some times in the 100 range too.

Wondering if you all recommend repaste/ adding new thermal pads

Are the screws tightened on the GPU? I had to remove the sticker and tighten it. Start by tightening the 3 screws on the bracket then look in between the backplate to see if the bracket is evenly tightened. I found that mine was not and tightened them all and it dropped temps to 20c between CPU and hotspot.
