Does anyone know of where I could find a cheap VCR player, so far from where I've been looking I think it's ridiculous that you can find DVD players for cheaper.

And the only reason I need a VCR is because I go to school 5 hours away from home, I have no VCR up at school, and I have this tape that I really want to watch, but not if I have to pay 45 bucks for a VCR player that I will use once.

I guess I should've went w/ a DVD\VCR combo when I bought my dvd player, oh well. Thanks.

Check thrift stores. You can probably find an old one for $5. Or just use a friend's vcr. Or see if your library has a media lab or something in which they might have vcrs for student use. It's really not all that surprising that dvd players are cheaper than vcrs. The mechanisms in dvd players are much simpler than those of dvd players, and there are many many more dvd players being made now than vcrs, so simple economy of scale + supply and demand explains a lot of it.

First up - wrong forum

Second up - find a store with a good return policy ;)

Just get the tape transfered over to DVD, there should be a couple places that offer that service, especially if you live near a college campus. Depending on the place it may be a little pricey, but you'll never have to worry about getting a vcr to watch it again.

I actually had to go hunt for a VCR recently...only place I could find one in stock at the time was Wal-Mart, who only had 1 straight up VCR, for something like 35 bucks.

Thrift store would be your best bet.

though, your school library or media center might have a VCR that you can check out. or at least a place to look at your tape. though, I'm thinkin' it's porn, so that might be a bad idea. ;)

As already said wrong forum.. but since I'm here and this thread isn't locked, try craigslist. I needed one last month and I got a 4head Samsung in great condition for $10. Goodluck!

Haha, no it's not porn, but its not something I feel like sitting in the library watching w/ headphones for a couple hours. Thanks for the replies, I'll probably check out a thrift store, that never really crossed my mind.
