Hi,

Got an old Heatkiller 3.0 block and not liking the copper top color. Anyone spraypaint it to black or something else?

Thanks

Shouldn't be any problem. You might mask off the circular areas around the fitting ports so that the o-rings can seal on bare copper, and obviously mask the bottom of the top where it mates with the other half of the block, but a coat of paint shouldn't cause you any grief as long as all your seals still seal when you're done. =)

Just do a light sanding with 320g sandpaper or the like, and use a proper metal paint such as Tremclad/rustoleum. The matte/gloss black professional enamel rust paints on the market (tremclad here in Canada, goes by a different name in the US) will be very suitable.

Just mask off the areas not meant to be painted.

After drying to the touch, and with masking removed, the block can be baked (just the copper parts) in any oven for around 1hr at the lowest setting to decrease cure times dramatically.
