Anybody get started late in IT?

It's the one avenue where it seems that skill and experience will surpass a degree in importance, any day of the week.

I've been hitting a ceiling for years for lack of a degree. I can't get into the jobs I really need to get into to continue learning on the job because they all want degrees around here. I'd like to get my hands on some of the bigger systems, but can't on my own and can't get a job that will put me in the position to learn.

I can't complain too much, though...I turn 30 this year and have 10 years of experience and a good job. I just got a significant raise that makes it hard to walk away from where I am anyway, I just wish we had more cool stuff to play with
