any love for Driver SF?

Really the only thing I crave for a racing game is that it run smooth. Visuals is something you get used and can somewhat compensate by your imagination but it´s a cardinal sin for a racing game not offering smooth gameplay.

I installed the 4 gig of ram now. Got my computer running at it. Memory relocation should be on I suppose? It just feels better seeing the 4 gig available memory anyway.

As for performance sadly there is no improvement whatsoever. Seem to be a bit more lag but this ram is slower and is running in 5-5-5-18 currently. which have had similar effect for racing games before. My older memory is running at 4-4-4-13. Same clockspeeds. I haven´t tried tightening the timings or increase the bus speed yet but well it won´t fix the issue obviously...

I used the challenge legal trouble. The one where you use a slow town car and the race ends while crossing the golden gate bridge. Shouldn´t be to challenging since there is only two or three cops chasing you but it´s a very stuttery 15 fps is my estimate. I haven´t checked with fraps though.

My computer should have more then enough horsepower. Core 2 duo running at 3,6 gig. GTX 580 at stock speed currently. WD Raptor as harddrive is no SSD drive surely but otherwise plenty fast

detail level in low is seemingly less then in the Xbox 360 demo so there is no excuse for this not performing better I feel. Another shady console port then. I will buld a HTPC later on with much more modest hardware will check out how that works. Otherwise if there would be possible to import save games I may just bit the bullett for the Xbox 360 version if people can guarantee there is no 15 fps slide shows during races or cop chases?

.

Just a question; but did you check the Nvidia Control Panel and see if your drivers are set to force AA or other things for all games or Driver? If they are that will have a big impact on the game's frame rate. One thing that I set in the Global tab in my drivers is Maximum Pre-rendered frames to 0.

I'll check my frame rate tonight to see what I'm getting with this dual core before I install my BD. Well if my nephews aren't installing it before I get back lol.

Have you tried downclocking your CPU a bit and see if it makes it worse? I know your goal isn't to make it worse :p But you can just try it and see, if performance further decreases as you reduce the clock speed on your CPU that might be pointing to your CPU running out of legs.

But yeah, I dont have the game so I can't really test things myself on it. The game doesn't even have a bloody demo on PC.

Oh and I get the same low frame rates if I have AA turned on. Everything is fine just running around town. Then I decide to start a car chase or whatever and it's lagged to hell. I turn the AA off and everything is fine.

I just figured it was this dual core not being able to handle system requests with the videocards actually being forced to do some work. But that was just my guess; and I didn't bother to investigate.

I'm running 1680X1050 I believe with Vsync off and AA off. Graphics are set to high. My 2 460's in SLI shouldn't be able to catch up to your 580 though. Well mine are OC'd somewhat though. I'll be back on tonight if I can help you test some settings or whatever.

2x460 if SLI is working well should match up perhaps? Was a long time since I checked benchmarks though. the prerendering doesn´t have an effect if you doesn´t run v-sync I believe? Will try that anyway.

Last post on this I promise.

v-sync off was a bit tricky. It tended to automagically turn on but that didn´t help. I can run 1360x768 low quality and 1920x1080 high quality with aa and there isn´t any real difference in performance. I don´t know if my savegame is somehow corrupted or something. That is pretty much my last straw.

Is there any chance to import the game to consoles. The tragedy is that I can see what great game it´s but the 15 fps and mega stutters just kills it :(

Question is how would it run on a HTPC with similar specs as this one http://www.asrock.com/nettop/overview.asp?Model=Vision 3D Series

The HTPC primarily goal is to be silent and not really for gaming so real high performance gear is out of the question due to heat dissipation issues with small or no fans.

Nephews wanted to see the AMD 8120 in action so I let them install it. Now I run the game with AA on and no lag whatsoever. I'll see if I can get FRAPS or MSI Afterburner installed to see what the frame rate is in a little bit.

Installed FRAPS and I'm at 120 fps with occasional dips to 119 fps when I cause a big crash. Remember I have this 8 core installed instead of the dual core.

It seem to lock at 120 fps max? I checked with fraps as well. During free roam I do hit 120 quite frequently as well but my eyes tells me its well below 30. Would guess 15-20 max. There is obviously micro stutters fraps can´t detect. I can get it down to 30 no problem in the legal trouble challenge for example though so there is not that much headroom. .

What could be the reason for mini stutters like this?

I feel totally burned buying this game - no 2560x1440 support and not even 1920x1200. Pretty awful in 2011 to find a game that doesn't support your native resolution.

It´s a console port. You always have to be vary about these they can make odd things.

Yeah, I'm interested in the game but I'm sure not paying $50 for what looks like a console port through and through and has silly DRM. I'll pick it up when it gets cheap.

hahahaha casual gamers getting what they deserve.
Why buy such shit in the first place....?

Because the game is superb? It´s hard to predict performance issues since I have maxed out every single game including Crysis 2 on my modest computer that since long lost bragging rights lol

IMO, there's 3 types of driving games....

Sims=iracing/RACEON
Simcade=F1 2011
Arcade=Blur/Split Second

I like the fist 2, but would have to be paid to play Arcade racing games:p

right, but driver doesnt immediately fall into any of those categories.

Does it have a sim driving model?
Is steering wheel precision excellent or average?
Can the cars be tuned in anyway, primarily set up, ie, suspension changes etc...?

- nope
- probably not to your standards
- nope

and thats why it does not fit into any of the categories you mentioned. what are you trying to prove?

Split Second is pretty fun though, Blur sucks.

Paid for it, installed it, took one look at it and haven't touched it since. I'm holding out until they fix the graphics as there doesn't seem to be any kind of post-processing on the PC version and it looks rubbish. I love the retro post-processing effects on the console version so I'll hold out and see what transpires for the PC.

So one look at the graphics and you're out. Sounds childish. not everything has to look like Crysis. Sometimes I find other PC gamers just embarrassing.

its a fun game, looks great, runs great...

Are you suggesting that the gameplay will somehow worsen if I play other games and revisit Driver once the developers have addressed the lack of post-processing on the PC version? I'm not quite sure what you're implying in your poorly thought out rant there tbh.

Played for a bit, got stuck on the stupid mission where I need to get some stupid bitch to the club while knocking down some stupid posters to increase the remaining clock. Could not get anywhere close so maybe there's some kind of trick but I have no patientce to continue. Also the lack of 1920x1200 is stupid. Other than that seems like okay game. 7/10 in my book (mind that I use the full 1-10 range).

You know as soon as they said I could take control of another person as long as they were driving a car because I was a coma, I suspected that it wasn't a simulator type game. Maybe I'm wrong and it is a sim, but I suspect it isn't.

Maybe you should petition Codemasters to add in the ability to take over the mind of other drivers in F1 2011. I think that would be more to your liking.

My poorly though out rant... really? go back and read your whiny post... ...that was a godawful rant. One look... lmao.

Wah.

I'm enjoying the game for what it is... not everything has to be judged solely on the graphics or post processing / lack thereof. The game is still fun, if you enjoyed the original Driver you will enjoy this. However, if you are a graphics snob move along.

It's an arcade game, just trying to prove that....

Driver: San Francisco had it’s patch (magic number 1.03) released today by Ubisoft. On PC, the patch will be auto-downloaded from Ubisoft’s game launcher.

Besides support for the Logitec G27 Wheel, the FPS’s occasional dips have apparently now ended entirely.

View the full list of the patch’s fixes here.
- Added support for Logitech G27 Steering Wheel.
- Game now supports very high screen resolutions (up to 2560*1600).
- Several menu control glitches fixed.
- In some rare cases players may observe FPS stutter. This is now fixed.
- Fixed an issue when the game was unable to locate player’s saves if his Uplay account contained ‘.’ (dot character).

Hasn´t fixed my stutter issue at all :(. The patch was released a couple of days ago? I did install the patch previously it appears. Model number say 1.03xx but there was no new patch today.

As for the wheel support. I don´t understand why there is no options for mapping the steer axis except for having to use digital buttons for throttle and brake? I don´t have a G27 so I suppose it will automagically work without mapping the steering controls? No luck with my Turbo S.

i plan on buying it eventually but the fact that i only have 15 gigs out of 7TB free on my computer is stopping me :( why oh why game drive did you have to die..

I am VERY interested how you managed to fill that up! Can't you remove some stuff you don't use? Can't for the life of me think how you can fill up nearly 7TB lol. I've filled half a terabyte in 3 years, and I rarely do a cleanup (maybe if I never did a clean up, I'd be around 1 TB right now).

woohoo for resolution support - too bad bf3 is out tonight and I doubt I'll touch this for a long time now.

Do we need to ask? Is there any other use for that much HDD space other than epic amounts of HD porn? :p

Hhhmmmm.... whatever, sir, are you filling all those TB's with ? Hhmmm... ?
