Any good apps to test LCD monitors (for dead pixels etc..)?

I just got a new monitor, and i would like to basically give it a good thorough testing before i decide to keep it.

I was wondering if you guys could recommend which free monitor testing apps, you normally use.
(Would be nice to find a good one for testing dead pixels.)

Also any other specific tests you guys normally do when testing a new monitor?

Some tests i can think of right now are:
Testing for dead pixels with multiple color screens etc.
Testing latency issues comparing LCD to CRT
???

Well i sort of expected my new monitor to fail many of those tests, given it was a big cheap TN panel.
I guess these tests are less disapointing for people who don't know what they are missing.
It did not help that i also had my old, small, PVA monitor connected up beside it which put the new monitor to shame in all but the response time tests.
