A recently unearthed Apple patent application indicates that the company is planning to equip future iOS and Mac devices with an antenna located beneath the famed Apple logo on the back.
According to Patently Apple, the patent application, which was filed back in June 2009, the technology developed by Apple will allow the company to place the antenna underneath the Apple logo that is found at the back of the iPhone 5, the iPad 2 as well as future iPod Touch and Mac OSX PCs.

Big deal, on the 3GS the cell antenna was on the back under the 8/16/32 and other text near the bottom of the phone and the Bluetooth was on the other end.

Do they really need a patent for that, considering there is already a trademark mentioned?

Better to patent than not.

Though patenting multitouch back in 2007 seems to have done no good with all the iPhone clones on the market.

It's not so much a patent on multi-touch as a whole... more like how they go about doing it.

If it improves the shitty wireless on Pro / Airs I'm all for it.
