So i've been slowly working my way through all the computer junk that i have sitting in the computer room and today its the day of the really old stuff 2 x baby AT pentium boards and my 1st PC, my old desktop gateway P90.
It was still partially assembled so plugged everything back in and there was life - of sorts, lights on noone home - pulled all the ide cables, it booted to floppy but no video, swapped PCI slots and hey presto - a dos prompt. Not bad for a machine built in 1994 and one that hasn't been switched on since 2004. The best bit - no bad ram and it had kept time, to the minute! No lithium battery either, it has one of the old school dallas battery chips.
I sense some serious old retro gaming on the horizon, Descent 1 & 2, Mechwarrior 2 + expansion plus whatever else i can find in the software cupboard.
Just need to source a hard drive - shouldn't bee too hard as i have several, install a sound card -- SB16 value ISA FTW, and install win 98 and reassemble the case.
Anyone else had similar luck with really old hardware?
