My first CPU was a K6-2 333Mhz
Everyone just has to have their retro rig nowadays. I can understand collecting some of the rarer stuff, but quite a bit of it is exactly that - old junk.My first CPU was a 6502 in a Commodore 64 . The first CPU I ever built with was a 286-16mhz.
I actually built several K6-2 rigs back before the 2K. They were always cheaper than comparable Intel chips and were generally OK, but always sucked in the FPU department... unless the game supported 3d-now! like quake 2+3 and don't remember what else... not that many games supported it that I recall. I replaced my last K6-2 (either a 350 or 400mhz) with a Celeron A + Abit BH6, overclocked to 466mhz. It just stomped the K6 stuff into the ground for a year or two anyway. The came the Athlon 1ghz chips... ahh those were the days.
Anyway, that chip on ebay isn't worth $20 IMHO. Nothing special about it. I still cannot wrap my head around the prices old junk like this fetches.

Hey wait a sec... is "keke" a re-brand of "erek" who normally posts this stuff?
I have a P2 400 still sealed brand new in box. Bought it 20 some odd years ago on clearance for like $15 and never got around to using it.
they didnt have an igpu, the mobo's did. That K6-2 never had a good graphics card so I was dissapointed that Driver would not play
Yeah I know, I meant the box/ computer I had never had a graphics cardthey didnt have an igpu, the mobo's did.
first system i bought for myself was a compaq with a k62 450, got it to 475 with the crap bios. still dont see this being worth what they want though....
And even then, they didn't come in retail packages but in blister packs or trays more often than not... Heck, I'm thinking I only ever saw retail at Microcenter, and even then ...The processor itself... Not really valuable whatsoever.
Any AMD CPUs from the 90s in retail packaging, let alone unopened... very rare. AMD did not do much retail back then at all.
Oh lord, pricewatch... yeah, did a lot of athlons that way.I never saw K6-2's or K6-3's in retail boxes, but I had my fair share of K7 era AMD CPU's in retail boxes which I purchased from Pricewatch sourced sites back in the day. That's pretty awesome to see a K6 still in the box, unopened.
Yes, on Pricewatch, they separated retail/tray because you could save like $20 by going with a tray CPU. I think that happened a little bit later on post-1999 though.Oh lord, pricewatch... yeah, did a lot of athlons that way.
Somehow, I'm remembering that you used to get a choice between retail and tray too...
I have one in my basement if you ever feel the urge to rebuild a period specific retro PC.I actually had a K6-2+ 450 there at the end that would overclock to 550 easily. It was a mobile cpu so it wasn't very common. You had to use a Super Socket 7 motherboard so as to have a 100FSB and support for PC100 SDRAM.Those were the days. I think I still have it somewhere...
