am i the only one that doesn't care about 4k?

I use a 40" 4K TV as my display. 4K is wonderful for productivity, and when I game I do so at 1080p or 1440p. Works like a charm, cost me a mere $300 on black friday 2016.

I'm not sold on 4K yet either due to the price of the hardware needed to drive 4K gaming.

It doesn't have to be 4K or 1080p or nothing, 1440p is good. IMO, from a PPI prespective, for 25" screen and under, 1080p is good, 27-35" 1440p is good, 32-35" and above you need 4K.
For gaming though, I'd rather have high refresh than higher resolution (detail levels being the same). And by high refresh I mean 90 Hz and above.

And to those who say that you can just turn down the resolution to game...
Granted I've only tried 2 4K monitors but the scaling down to 1440p was ugly as heck. But it could have been those 2 monitors I used (one was an LG and can't remember what the other one was, but I have to note they were "entry" level 4K monitors)
