akward network utilization

After 6 months of using onboard lan on my fileserver it finally died after it progressivley got slower the week leading up to its death. In light of this i got another network card installed it and all was good for about 2 weeks and now i am beginning to see the same symptoms as I did with the onboard lan. Transfers take forever (i.e. 550 mb takes about 10 -15 mins) and the "minutes remaining" number during transfers jumps around a lot say from 6 minutes to 11 minutes then to 4 minutes then back to 13. Any suggestions on what to do? I am on Win XP pro and here is a chart of the network utilization.

what nic are you now using, what are the specs of both your computer and the server, what kind of hub/switch are you using, and how does it perform if you've got a crossover between your machine and the server?

yeah i would check cabling first....then nic...then format and install linux/bsd
