Advice for New System

I've been dealing with this shitty 1.7ghz/sdram/g4-ti4200 system for a year too long now. i think that now (right before hl2 and doom3 come out) is a good time to upgrade, however i currently have limited resources.

could someone plz suggest a mobo/cpu/ram combo (as i don't require any other components) for the following conditions:

*doesn't have to be top of the line however it must:
*be very upgradable/compatable with future hardware (chipsets/pci express/etc)
*i prefer intel's cpu's but if amd costs less i could go for that
*i'd like at least a 2.8ghz or relative cpu
*ddr ram at 3200 or less
*i don't plan to upgrade my card now, and i dont really need suggestions for that (probably going to be a 9800xt or x800 pro)
