Ok so my Q6600 @ 3ghz is just not cutting it in 64 player BF3, I've decided to upgrade to a 2500k.. so here goes:

1. Which mobo? I think I've narrowed it down to the Asus P8Z68 Pro, do I need the Gen 3 aka PCIe 3.0? Also, what's the difference between the Z68 chipset and the P67 chipset?

2. Heard the 2500k is a great overclocker, what speeds should I be expecting?

3. Been out of the o/cing game for awhile so what air cooler do you recommend? I don't suppose the stock HSF will cut it?

That's about it for now.. thanks!

1. Look through the Intel motherboard subforum. The motherboard reviews will explain the Z68 chipset. Gen3 just ensures compatibility with Ivy Bridge, the 2500k does not have PCI-E 3.0. Z68 = P67 + H67 + some extra features.

2. Depending on your cooling, anywhere from 4.5 to 5 ghz.

3. What's your budget?

As to cooler - for O/C stock does not cut it at all.
1 popular inexpensive one is the Hyper 212.

1. Hmm ok, so is it worth the extra $20 for Gen3?

3. $50-100

Why not just get the standard -V instead of the PRO? The -V Gen3 is $30 less than the non-Gen3 PRO and the only thing missing (I think) is the extra SATA 6GB ports.

1. Switchable Graphics, SSD caching

2. 4.5 GHz seems to be my CPU's sweet spot, I can run Prime95 for 12 hours stable. However when I go to 4.6 GHz I can't boot :(

3. Noctua NH-D14, I went the water route with an H100 but I have heard good things about the DH14.

NH-D14, Thermalright Archon, H80 or H100, and the Prolimatech Genesis are all top-notch coolers.
