Guys,

When do look at XP procs, it says like an XP 2200+ is such price
And an XP2200+ 333 is such price.

Which one is actually better?

And what is the difference?

ok, I'm a bit confused as I dont know if there is a 2200+ 333, I thought those started at 2500+ and so to check pricewatch...erm,
oddly enough Pricewatch is down right now. Ok, look at the listings you gave the 2200+ vs. the 2200+ 333 - this is usually how pricewatch lists same speed cpus with DIFFERENT bus speeds - I'll use your example
amd 2200+ - $###
amd 2200+ 333 - $###
Ok, so what does that mean? In this case the 2200+ is the 266mhz front side bus cpu, the 2200+ 333 is the 333mhz front side bus cpu...
Which is better? depends on what you want to do and what motherboard you plan to use... the 2200+ is older than the 333.
But if you have a motherboard limited to the 266mhz bus, the 2200+333 is practically useless to you, unless the board can overclock close to 333mhz front side. Thus the difference. My suggestion, if your board can handle 333, 400 mhz bus speeds go with the 2200+ 333, if it actually exists...
which gets me to another thing, pricewatch price lists can be mislead by the seller's info - so, a seller misposts a cpu with the wrong bus speed beside it, voila! a wrong listing shows up on the pricelist. So, do check to make sure the cpu exists with the proper bus before buying...
If you plan to overclock, go with the mobile athlon 2500+ (as it is the barton core that runs on a lower voltage and is multiplier unlocked... look at other threads about it.)
But again I havent heard of the 2200+ 333, as I thought the 333mhz frontside bus starts with the barton cores or at the 2500+ and up range...

Thanks for some explanations.

I used the 2200+ as an example only.

I am looking at the Barton 2500+ 333 mhz CPU.

It going in a Soyo KT-400 Platinum edition.

Would that CPU work ok? Or would another one be better?

I have a 2200+ in it now.

ANy suggestions would be great.

thanks

That board I'd get the 266 version. The 333 will technically work if you have a 1/6 divider but I've had fits with KT400 boards and 333 bus before.

266 or 333 is not as important as the actual clock speed. You would be well served to get the 266 for guaranteed compliance.

My 2 cents!
