I just got my 9700k in from Newegg last night and have spent a few hours overclocking, but wanted to get some other folks thoughts on how I ought to configure my LLC and Vcore for daily use.
Here’s the question (I’ll post additional background info after).
For my 5.0ghz, all core, daily overclock, would you recommend:
1.) A lower LLC setting of Turbo (mobo is GB Z370 Aorus Gaming 7) with a bit higher Vcore (ex 1.350), or
2.) A higher LLC setting of Extreme with a bit lower Vcore (ex. 1.330)?
I’m still dialing in the lowest possible vcores, but both configurations are game and Prime stable (at least a couple hours each anyway) with Auto Uncore of 46 and no AVX offset. I also dial IA AC & DC down to 1 to limit some of the aggressive LLC vcore spikes.
As far as I understand, option 1 means a higher idle voltage (with adaptive / offset voltage disabled) and a bit more vdroop but potentially fewer aggressive vcore spikes. Option 2 means a lower idle vcore with less vdroop, but potential for more aggressive vcore spikes.
Regarding my 9700k, I didn’t win the lotto with this chip but it’s also not a complete dud. 5.2 boots into Windows at 1.41 Vcore (don’t want to push higher) but is very unstable. 5.1 seems ‘Prime95 small ffts’ stable (haven’t had long enough to really confirm) but requires ~ 1.4 Vcore and runs too hot for my tastes, even under a pretty beefy custom water loop (haven’t tinkered with AVX offset yet). 5.0 seems to be the sweet spot as I can keep core temps below 84c during prime95 small ffts and hwinfo shows MAX vcore only hits 1.380.
Thanks in advance.
Edit: I forgot to mention that I have all c-states enabled except C1E (had OC issues with it on a prior GB board and have just disabled out of habit).
