So now that I've established that the BD chips are trash for gaming, I'm wondering if grabbing the 1090T is worth it with a hefty overclock. Right now I've got a 965 BE running at 4ghz with a Corsair H100 cooling it.

Since 1090T prices have dropped to around $170 in my area, do you guys think it's worth it to grab one and overclock it? I'm assuming I'll be able to get at least 4.2-4.4Ghz out of it with my current setup.

Ehh... gaming-wise, I doubt you'll see any difference, but that comes down to the games you play, and the graphics cards you're using.

I'm pairing it with crossfire Radeon 5870s. I'm hoping this rig will last me straight through Battlefield 3 (Just barely maxed right now with 40-70fps @ ultra settings), Skyrim, Mass Effect 3 and on.

Don't do it. Wait until the next round of CPUs (Sandy Bridge-E and Piledriver) at the least.

You're probably more likely to end up bottlenecked by your 5870's.

BF3 will scale well with the extra cores.

I just went from an Unlocked x2 555, to a 1090T. It was a decent upgrade. But I also needed a CPU for my girls PC, so didnt hurt to bad to waste $170. (threw the X2 in her rig) Probably the only reason I did it.

This is a quick benchmark with fraps on BF3

X2 Unlocked to X4 @3.5 -- 32 slot server
Frames, Time (ms), Min, Max, Avg
8158, 120000, 23, 57, 42.958

1090T Stock, --- More People, was a full 44 slot server
Frames, Time (ms), Min, Max, Avg
8392, 120000, 46, 110, 69.933

Both Ran on Kharg Island (SP) From the US side

Cant really say to not get or to get. Not really worth the 170 bucks for the few FPS you get, but as stated, by my post I needed a CPU for a spare rig..

most games will not show a difference. Probably stick with what you got unless you know those certain games will use it

Guess that's out then.

Let's hope AMD steps up their game or I may just have to go intel next mobo swap.
