I decided to delay buying my 3 monitors until the ROG swift is released in April.

I am now wondering if I should just go for a single large 4k Display.

If you could choose between 3 x ROG swifts (at around $2,100) or a larger single 4k monitor at a similar budget what would you choose, assuming you had the hardware to push it on maxed settings?

If 4k is the answer which monitor would you choose.

Usage:
50% FPS
40% Strategy Civ, COH...
10% MMO WOW...

I do not have a 4k, so take my info with caution.

I think a 24" would be a pain for many general tasks:

It might be good for reading, with things like Kindle and Adobe PDF. Vega mentioned that the dell 4k 24" is the monitor that has caused him the least eye fatigue.

30" might be okay, assuming it doesn't have the glow issue that NCX pointed out in my thread. (He was speaking of 2560x1600.)

Bigger monitors, such as 39" - would be unpleasant to me. For example, I had my 23" in portrait mode, and I disdained using the top and bottom couple of inches; it's uncomfortable.

I kind of want a 4k 24", because most of what I do is reading. :)

I've had different monitor configurations and the advantage of a 39" monitor is that you have a single large display that you can divide into virtual overlapping displays.
So with my 39" monitor I have my IDE in the center and two browsers on the side along with two consoles. It is comfortable not having to worry about the monitor gap in between.

The disadvantage of this set up is that the outer edges are harder to see because they are further away.
Would be fun to have a curved display. Try the 39" you will like it if you are not a FPS shooter who wants the shortest lag time.

If 100% of games supported Surround/Eyefinity then go with multi-monitor. But since this is not the case I would suggest one huge monitor.

Or if you're budget is 2k and you have the desk space go with both :)

2k is enough for 1x30" 2560x1600 monitor and 3x24" 1080p 120hz Asus/Benq's.

4 monitors is a no go for me unfortunately. What would your one huge monitor be?

It would be the new Dell 32" 4k(which you can find online for $2299 or so)

I just ordered it so I can't give personal impressions till next week. As someone who currently uses a 4 monitor set up I actually prefer the ultra wide multi monitor set up vs one big monitor. Most games I play don't support it all(Star Craft 2, Diablo 3, Walking Dead, etc..) or have limited support or require hacks like "flawless widescreen", but when it works perfect(BF4 or WOW) its amazing.

my 2nd choices would be-

the upcoming Asus ROG 27" or LG/Dell 34" Ultrawide

39" is okay. I use one now. That's as large as I would want to go for desktop though. I would think a 32"-34" more the ideal for desktop but some people complain anything bigger than 24" is too big. I never understood why they find it too big but each to their own. 4k would be best but only if it does 60Hz+ and not 30Hz.

Congrats on the new monitor

Please let me know how you find the Dell.

It would be 1x ROG 27 strictyly for gaming and an an Asus 32" 60Hz 4k monitor in 6 months when the price drops down on it a bit more, for browsing, work, porn etc...

The purpose of having a ROG swift is 120Hz lightboost like clarity, but the screen is 1440p. I do not know of a reliable, affordable and a logical setup that can play games at high/ultra settings at 3x1440p @ 120fps. So 3x ROG swift would be a massive waste of money. The only sensible triple monitor gaming is done with 3x24" @1080p.
