I'm looking at getting an external FW HD. I am going to choose between these two drives. Please reply w/ any comments, and/or recommendations!

Lacie FireWire HD

160GB, 7200rpm, 2MB cache - $179
250GB, 7200rpm, 8MB cache - $269

I'm primarly going to be backing up two Macs to this FW drive, so the size really isn't an issue, but more GB is always a good thing :) I care more about the 2MB vs 8MB cache...how much speed (read/write) difference would that make?

Is the 250GB drive worth the $90 more?

unless that lacie comes with some software you can't do without, you might want to look into putting your own enclosure together.

you may only save $10-15, but you'll have the entire spectrum of ide drives to choose from (i.e. specs you want).

i'd reckon that the buffer only does much good if there is going to be much read/write going on. if you are just dragging and dropping and forgetting, then i'm not sure the buffer will matter much.

what would you recommend for an external FW enclosure then? I'll look into going that way as well...
