Im building a projector gaming system and would like a video card able to play most recent games, like Batman AA yeah with the physics. and of cource LFD2 and AVP.
I know thats not high res but as I said its for a projector gaming system.
It's also playing movies and will have an HDTV card ect. Yes I know it's not high res. The CPU will be a AMD Phen2 X4 and maybe better later.
Thanks!

get a 4850 they can be had for sub $100 nowadays or if you want to totally max stuff out get a HD 5770 although it is over $100

I just got a 5750 (which is a tad slower then a 4850) for $129 (XFX model) but Newegg has a Powercolor for $119 (and a $10 rebate too, $109). Typical 4850 prices are in that neighborhood so I decided to pick one up (just got it, it ships out tomorrow).

1280x1024? is there not some type of widescreen option because that is the worst possible aspect ratio to play games at.

Ati 5670 would be a good choice imo. You can find them new for under 100.

The ATI 5670 is probably your best bet at that res. It requires no extra power and should be able to run everything on high. Plus, it has DX11.

What PSU do you have? Regardless of whether or not the video card is low powered, still a good idea to make sure that the PSU is capable of providing enough power.

Looks like most people just post whatever they want instead of reading the whole post. If you meant Nvidia's "PhysX", then none of the cards listed will work.

For that price, you should get a GTS 250. A 9800GT (somewhat slower) would be a good choice also

wow, some bad suggest in this thread imo. Even at low resolutions the HD5670 will limit your gaming experience.

If you need PhysX, the GTS250 will work. The HD4770 and HD4850 perform about the same and are also good choices, but don't support PhysX (as it's an Nvidia feature only). All these sell for ~$100.
GTS250 $77 AR http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814261057&cm_re=GTS250-_-14-261-057-_-Product
HD4770 $90 AR http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814150369&Tpk=hd4770

HD5750 is better and supports Directx11.
512MB = $113 AR http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814131331&cm_re=hd_5750-_-14-131-331-_-Product

HD5770 the best option if you're willing to spend the extra money.

4850 minimum, that will allow you to keep everything on high in almost all newer games at that resolution and even use a little AA/AF. 4870 if you want to use 4x AA a little more.

Not exactly. A 5670 can achieve 35 fps avg at 1280x1024 on Dirt 2 with all DX11 effects and everything on high. To me 35 fps is playable, some people disagree, but I don't mind it. Besides, you can always turn down AA to get even better performance if you don't need soft edges. With that being said, $113 is a good price for a 5750. A 5670 isn't that much cheaper (cheapest on Newegg is this powercoler 5670 that's $75 after MIR)

Looks like a good deal, not that I'm a fan of MIRs. I wouldn't worry about GPU PhysX though - not just because it is hardly prevalent, but with a card of this calibre I'd be doubtful there is enough power to perform both rendering and physics calculations. Batman AA recommends a 9800GTX+ as a dedicated PhysX card iirc.

EDIT: On a heavily OC'd GTX260 I was able to play Batman decently at 1680x1050 with PhysX on Normal. With an 8800GTS(G80) dedicated to PhysX it was certainly faster, but still wasn't playable with High physics.

EDIT 2: Looks like the GTS250 can handle PhysX in Batman, although the only tests I've seen showing this are for the 1GB variant and with AA disabled.

No, a HD5670 will limit your gaming experience. Dirt 2 is not that demanding, and even then I am not sure I would call averaging 35 FPS in Dirt 2 playable. That probably means you dropped into the teens running off into the dirt. Running more demanding games like Crysis/Crysis Warhead or Metro 2033 with a HD 5670 at highest settings and thing will not be playable even at a low 1280x1024 resolution and definitely no anti-aliasing. And Its not going to get better with new game releases. When the HD5670 is only a few dollars less than the HD4850 or GTS250 there is no reason to recommend it for gaming as its preformance is about 50% slower and will struggle running DX11 features.

The HD5670 is more suited for light/casual gamers that only care that games works and are more interested in features, power, heat, size and noise. The HD5650 and HD5670 also make great video cards for media center PCs imo.
