Booting Windows 7 From an M.2 on an Asus Mini-ITX Mobo Is ... Not Suggested by Asus

Do a search for "windows 7 create usb install disk slipstream" and you'll find results which can walk you through the process. Note that it won't tell you which exact KB updates. Just use the information on what updates you need - or integrate them all. Here's one I wrote up in a previous life...

What is your purpose for RAID? Do you actually need the fault tolerance? You know that RAID is not a backup, right? HDDs have multiple levels of power draw. Highest is spinup, when they are first powering up. They can use 8-15W depending on the drive. Active seeks use the next amount, which is...

Project Orthrus - Smallest SLI mATX case (V2)

I have some flexible SLI bridges that are around 6" long. Don't know if something like that would suffice. They are, however, that strange yellow color. How well does it work with these bridges? I read that the 1070/1080 can use the higher bandwidth of the new "SLI HB Bridge."

How serious do you want to get with your power savings? My idea will get you down to 5W and keep your core functionality. The most extreme method I can think of is to use a broadband router which has a USB port for NAS duties, and which also can download torrents. Some routers have the...

suggestions for i7 6700k and evga 1060 sff system ?

Ok, then you still need higher end performance. Unless you are going 4k right out of the gate, a GTX 1060 would probably be perfect. Stock cooler is fine for stock clocks as long as you install it right and enable "smart fan" in BIOS.

suggestions for i7 6700k and evga 1060 sff system ?

What does this mean? Are you "casual" in the sense that you only play a few hours a week on your own, but you still play very demanding games? Or are you "casual" in that you play some web browser games? How about typical e-sports games like LoL and SC2? All these can have a big impact on...

NCase M1 mod for vertical GPU - build log

Assuming no issues with the installation (air bubbles, blocks mounted a bit off, etc.) and the radiators share similar design, possibly your fan choice produced less static air pressure? Thinner rads can get away with that, but thicker ones cannot.

    Short height optical drive?

I also rarely use an optical drive. Since I have ultrabook style laptops sans internal optical drive, I bought a slim USB optical drive. After that, I stopped putting internal optical drives into my own systems. Maybe 2-3 times a year I plug in the external. Otherwise, don't miss it. You may be...

How to start a SFF pc building business?

Are you just looking to do this in your spare time as more of a hobby, or do you envision making a living off this? Your business model as described points towards the former. SilverStone SX800-LTI 800W Titanium SFX-L

I partially disagree. You should aim for a PSU that will handle your maximum load, but also with attention paid towards the load that you run MOST of the time. Example: Someone in college who spends 2 hours a day gaming (running under load) but the rest of the time web browsing or typing...

Maybe time to invest in a cheap Kill-A-Watt to measure power draw? In theory your setup shouldn't hit the limit but maybe your factory overclocked GPU (and software reporting 105% power draw) put it close? What temperatures were the CPU and GPU running at the time of shutdown? Is this PC inside...

GPU and motherboard back2back style: all the options

They came with a 1U server PSU. Note that this is all relative. Some people didn't notice at all. Some probably lost sleep over it. My understanding was that it was "not noisy" until under load, during which time you may be doing something that has sound that can cover up the noise, such as...

Convert 2500K to ITX or build new 6600K

You shouldn't count the m.2 SSD in your cost because technically you can just re-use your old SSD. You won't be overclocking on that Asus P8H61-I motherboard. What do you think you'll get from the "gaming" version of the ASRock board that the regular one won't give you for $40 less?

Need mITX reccomendations - rush build

FSP Group makes the Silverstone PSU. They sell the same thing under their own name. Sometimes I've seen it for $5 cheaper. If you want a higher capacity 2.5" HDD just for pure data storage, cheap and popular way (though you lose warranty) is to buy an external unit and remove the drive from the...

Looking to jump into my first mini ITX build but need some help

Sounds as if you need the fastest CPU you can get. X99 on mITX: ASRock X99E-itx/ac Unfortunately will be RAM limited, and you'll still need discrete graphics. Let me get this out of the way: You will have to compromise. If you want it easily portable, then you will have to cut down on...

Looking to jump into my first mini ITX build but need some help

For most your uses, anything modern with plenty of RAM would suffice. Specifically for gaming, what games? HEAT! Coolermaster Elite 110, Skylake 6600k, R380 gpu

You need to figure out why temps are so high. Run with the case off. If idle temps are a lot lower, then it is a case cooling issue. If idle temps are still high, touch the heatsink to see if it feels warm. 40°C is a bit higher than body temperature, while 50ºC will be like lukewarm coffee...

New and looking for some advice

New and looking for some advice

Next big step up in performance would be a GTX 980 Ti, but now you're talking about closer to a $1400 computer. Going two GTX 970 in SLI would put you near that price as well, plus you would need a bigger case which won't be "console sized" anymore.

New and looking for some advice

For graphics, unless you are actually running out of texture memory, the GPU chip itself is probably more important than the amount of RAM. 2GB or 4GB? Checking out a GTX 960? If your TV can actually pull in the 4K/60 signal, then you'll want a higher end GPU for future games. Unless there is...

Have a look at the SilverStone Milo ML08B case. Same chassis as the Raven RVZ02B, but IMO looks better blending into a home entertainment center. PC-Q25 Replacement

External high capacity USB drives are pretty cheap. I've seen 8TB drives on sale for $180. There's a catch with the USB drives. Don't expect to be able to slap all your data onto it in one mass copy. Majority of the budget USB drives will overheat and fail because they are passively cooled...

A little help for a fellow itx user

My suggestion would be to NOT find the "perfect case" and settle for the "cheapest case which works." The reason is that you will be traveling with it. No matter how careful you are, the case will start showing wear. Also, things can happen to it outside of your control. Nothing worse than...

New to SFF, wondering about build for office

Possible multi-display issues aside, I have reconsidered and believe the Antec ISK 110 to be your best choice. The PSU it comes with can power a 65W Core i7-6700 system just fine. It can use the stock cooler, which is pretty quiet under normal loads. The case has better ventilation and CPU...

Smallest itx case with internal psu?

I had one. The internal PSU has a tiny fan that was maybe 20mm or 30mm. While the outright volume of noise was low it was omnipresent and obtrusive to my ears while on the desk. If mounted behind the monitor or elsewhere (under desk, etc) it may not be as objectionable.
