Guvernment, the problem is that higher resolution might up the information on screen but doens't help those with poor eyes. don't tell me to up the DPI or use large buttons b/c that removes the point of having higher resolution on a small screen!
Given that, like i said, I've seen Dell laptops with little to no bezel, I imagine there are methods of overcoming the structure argument, even if they add to weight
If you could get a 17" in the formfactor of a 15, wouldn't you want it?
I realize there are more hurdles than screen bezel, but If you have carried around a 15" gaming laptop, you care about the weight. It makes you wish you were getting 17" for all the lugging you do.
While I'm sure there are engineering hurdles, someone I know has a 5 year old Dell laptop with barely any bezel, especially on the sides.
While impersonating an edge-to-edge screen with glass as Apple does on Macbooks probably helps sales, it seems to me that if someone actually came out with...
HP is offering Radiance again as an option for one of the Envy's as recently as the past month, not sure if they have run out again. I saw it posted on a site like this one, think Gizmodo.
Here's AnandTech's review of the HP EliteBook with IPS screen.

They said it had better color accuracy but otherwise did not blow away the competition, if I recall.
same. honestly, I have little incentive to upgrade any time soon.
game graphics are not getting that mcuh better, the only thing that made this machine run less than comfortably was Starcraft 2. I'm not a big shooter fan so those aren't a big issue.
As someone who lives and works in Microsoft OFfice while running games like WoW in the background, sometimes multiple game clients at a time, no, you do not use 8GB for everyday tasks. You barely use 3GB most times. someone can try and post their Task Manager to prove me wrong.
apple is not going to sell a lot of TVs on the basis of a better display tech.
you have to remember that the avg person has trouble seeing the difference between DVD and HD when they do studies.
Hell, most LCDs are actually inferior to CRTs in all but vertical resolution. It didn't stop ppl...
It's a content play. They'd only make a TV to try and control content. Unless they have suddenly entered the display R&D market, which they haven't, they buy all their displays from Samsung and Toshiba.
the stagnant state of games development due to consoles is pretty much insuring no one will be using above 3GB's of system RAM for gaming or general usage any time soon.
I have run Mass Effect and WOW plus 30 documents at the same time and still not gotten near 4GB according to the Windows task manager. That's with ultra texture settings. You will not be using your 8GB's.
At your resolution, probably every game you run would benefit from the CPU. Sandy Bridge is like 20% faster in some scenarios than the old architecture.
Google Talk / Voice. In your Gmail settings there should be an option to call your buddies or to input a new number to call people. It's completely free and you can choose your number or use number portability through Google Voice.
It also doesn't require running Skype in the background.
I purchased the same machine as Mr Dospod, G51JX-x3, in November, and am loving it. Refurb, $749. The only thing I don't like about it is the speakers, which i don't really use, and the weight is about as hefy as the 17". But I will more than likely purchase an Asus Intel Ivy Bridge...
Wondering what I should know, should I make due with a Win 7 netbook or spend the dough on MBA 11" for light mobile photo Canon DPP editing...
Is there anything that Apple provides beyond interface that makes the money well spent?
Further I heard about a Dell that ppl can Hackintosh, how...
.enigma:
you can get a refurbed Asus G60JX or VX for $749. It's 7.5 lbs plus adapter, but will definitely satisfy the other needs you mentioned above, and is the most power in that price range until you get to $1000
Dell studio 14 has a $599 deal right now for i5, 6gb ram and ATI 550v

Sway:
Thanks a LOT for the offer! The [H] community really do help each other out!
I appreciate this and all the information, but I think I'm going to stick with the g60 i ordered b/c i got a good price and in these times it helps to be a little budget conscious.
Out of curiosity, what is...
Sway: I couldn't find your deal at my own Best Buy or on Google Shopping. The cheapest G73 i found was $1050 for a Used, not refurbed machine. Still a decent deal.
the G60JX has a 1388x766 but i'm fine with that; i have bad eyes that i don't wear lenses for, and even in Win 7 enlarging fonts can break some programs.
Further, I'm happy that I won't have to interpolate the image if I want to run lower than 1920x1080, I can run native.
Finally, I do about...
Thanks for the advice, that's a great deal on the Studio 14.
I went ahead and bought the Asus G60JX refurbed for 749... It's got an Nvdidia 360m and Core i5. I feel like to get any moer machine i wouldh ave had to spent over a grand. And the 360m should be a lot faster than the ATi 550...
it seems very hard to find discrete graphics adapters n the price range i specified, would be highly surprised if there's a machine out there better than the two I linked but pleasantly surprised too
Found the Inspiron 15R with a Radeon 550v which is the equivalent of a 4850 for $679.
Also found new HP G62T with a Radeon 5470 which is DX11 but performs like a mid - 4000 lvl card.
I think I'm going to go with the Inspiron as the Frames are decent for Crysis for only $679.
Anyone have this...
The fastest GPU I've found in a $600 or lower notebook is the ATI Mobilty HD Radeon 5470, anyone know of any faster?
All I play is WOW and SC2.
Thanks in advance.
Thanks Ronco. Will look into storage solutions.
1.) Need more input on USB sound cards and gaming performance.
2.) Need more input on Phones Vs Amp or DAC
Few questions:
At risk of sounding stupid, I'm buying an HP G62T for budgetary reasons as an extra mobile machine for some office work and light gaming / music / movies. If there's a better option for light gaming let me know, literally WOW lowest settings is all I play.
1.) I would spend up...
What you guys are calling "laptops" with Athlon X2's are actually 10+ lb monsters.
The ONLY conceivable, practical application for a laptop so large is LAN parties, and yeah, we know that that's what all the Alienware brainwashed fanatics buy them for.
My point is, if you are just going...
