I have experienced this first hand. It will not disable your OS, it just won't let you download any non-critical updates. I used firefox, went to http://windowsupdate.62nds.com/, and got all the updates I needed.

I put 2k on machines that are a little slower, it runs much better than XP with 128-256 MB RAM.

I don't ever have a users tab. Using windows XP pro here. Maybe you deleted the only other acount?

You can also unlock it and put it on the left side running vertical. That is the only way I can have mine anymore.

Right click taskbar-> select properties-> Click on the customize button-> Find "Safely Remove Hardware"-> Change drop down box to always hide. This will only work if you have "hide inactive icons" enabled. I think it's the only way to get rid of it. I have tried before too, this is all I...

Can you hear/feel the drive spin up when the computer is started?

Have you tried to install windows with out specifying a driver for the hard drive? It doesn't sound like you are using raid or anything special. Just let the install go past that part to see if that will work.

Are those any good? I use a regular mach 3, worth it to buy one?

I say double check the jumpers on the back of the drive(s). Make sure you have one master and one slave on each IDE cable. If that checks out try replacing the cable. If that doesn't work, then you might try a PCI controller card. Good luck.

It is a power supply that allows you to detatch and reattatch the different cables coming out of it so you just have the cables you need.
